Committed to Improving Safety, NMHG Participates in National Forklift Safety Day and Hosts Awareness Events

NACCO Materials Handling Group (NMHG) underscored its commitment to safety and industry leadership in a series of events related to the second annual National Forklift Safety Day on June 9. Sponsored by the Industrial Truck Association (ITA), National Forklift Safety Day serves as a focal point for manufacturers to highlight the safe use of forklifts and importance of operator training. This day provides an opportunity for the industry to educate customers, policymakers and government officials on forklift operating safety practices to encourage safer behavior.

As an industry leading voice in the effort to improve safety, NMHG’s Chuck Pascarelli, President of the Americas; Bill Pfleger, Vice President of Counterbalance Solutions and Don Buckman, Division Environmental, Health and Safety Manager, attended the ITA’s National Forklift Safety Day events in Washington, DC. Additionally, NMHG’s Jay Costello, Director of Training, was also in attendance as one of the featured presenters during the event’s Summit Meeting. Costello’s presentation focused on the importance of creating, implementing and supporting effective operator training programs to address common safety-related violations and vulnerabilities, as well as safety and maintenance best practices.

“NMHG is proud to be a leading voice on issues of critical importance to our industry,” said Pascarelli. “Our participation in this event underscores that commitment. By working together on behalf of our company and industry, we can continue to live up to our core principles of innovation and enhanced performance, advancing safety practices that can have a direct impact on reducing injuries and saving lives.”

In addition to online and social media campaigns, the company marked the occasion with employee events at each of its U.S. plants. The events focused on forklift operator training and pedestrian safety, reminding employees the critical role each plays in advancing safety and reducing lift truck related incidents. The company also encouraged its dealers to join them in demonstrating safety by hosting events at their individual dealership locations.
