Crown Equipment Commemorates Opening of New Engine Plant

Crown Equipment Corporation, one of the world’s largest material handling companies, celebrated the opening of its new forklift engine manufacturing plant in Troy, Ohio, with the local chamber of commerce and other local and regional dignitaries. Crown started production of 2.4L LPG engines for its Crown C-5 Series industrial forklifts late last year. The company renovated and revitalized the 165,500-square-foot facility that it purchased in 2012.

The Troy facility manufactures the engine used in forklifts designed for various indoor and outdoor settings such as warehouses, manufacturing plants, construction sites, brick and lumber yards, and recycling centers. Production at the facility is on the rise as the company meets growing demand in new domestic and international markets. Earlier this year, the industrial forklift was launched in the European, Middle East and Africa regions.

“Crown Equipment is a core part of our community, this region and the state of Ohio,” said J.C. Wallace, president, Troy Area Chamber of Commerce.  “We couldn’t be more proud of the skilled workers that come to this facility each day. This is a first-class facility designed and operated with the some of the highest attention to detail I’ve ever seen. We’re grateful for Crown’s contributions to date, and we’re excited to support the company’s continued growth in the years ahead.”

Jim Dicke III, president, Crown Equipment, added in his remarks at the event, “These accomplishments are not possible without committed and engaged employees. We are fortunate to have employees throughout the world who use their incredible talents to innovatively solve our customers’ challenges ranging from performance and productivity to sustainability and everything in between. Our company has built its reputation on hard work, meaningful relationships and great products that we make with our own hands. And this is a commitment that I believe defines the Crown Equipment experience.”

Upon its opening in fall 2014, the Troy production plant earned the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 certification that specifies requirements for a quality management system. The facility features environmentally controlled manufacturing, warehouse and office space.
