Gaskell’s presentation will focus on the role technology plays in improved fleet and operator management and how it can be used to ensure operator compliance and safety. He will also discuss the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s (OSHA) compliance process and provide best practices in integrating technology-based warehouse management systems.

“Today’s operator and fleet management systems enable managers to immediately respond to impacts when they occur, monitor operator performance, control truck performance based on operator skill level and be more informed about potential maintenance issues,” said Gaskell. “When properly implemented and utilized, this type of technology can help increase warehouse efficiency and improve overall safety.”

In June, Crown launched the “I am a champion of safety” initiative in conjunction with the Industrial Truck Association’s National Forklift Safety Day. The program recognizes forklift safety champions throughout the supply chain and the important role each person plays in making safety a priority. As part of the program, Crown is distributing safety-based materials throughout its retail locations and corporate offices noting the role of design, technology, training, and individual responsibility in taking ownership of safe operations.

Sponsored by AIST’s Safety & Health Technology Committee, the conference focuses on new solutions to reinforce and improve safety and health initiatives at metal-producing facilities, as well as those of associated suppliers, vendors and contractors. Topics being addressed at the conference include maintenance work requests, fall protection, workplace violence and presentations from industry leaders.
