Crown Equipment, one of the world’s largest material handling companies, scored a trifecta last year for awards recognising its innovation and leadership in areas of design, performance and environmental sustainability.
Highlights from 2014 include winning a GOOD DESIGN™ Award, an International Forum Design Award in the “Transportation Design/Special Vehicles” category, and the International Forklift Truck of the Year (IFOY) Award, all involving Crown QuickPick® Remote.
GOOD DESIGN Award Honors Crown QuickPick® Remote The Crown QuickPick® Remote order-picking technology earned a GOOD DESIGN Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. Internationally renowned design institutions and associations have recognized Crown forklifts with more than 80 awards since 1965.
This recognition marks the 14th GOOD DESIGN Award for Crown Equipment. The GOOD DESIGN™ jury honored Crown for its dedication to design that challenges traditional thinking. Crown’s approach to design focuses on ideas for improving lift truck operator productivity and safety, based on a thorough understanding of the operator-forklift relationship.
QuickPick® Remote Earns iF Design Award The Crown QuickPick® Remote order-picking technology also earned its third international design award for superior design quality, workmanship, ergonomics and innovative functionality, this time at the iF International Forum Design in the “Transportation Design/Special Vehicles” category of its product design competition.
The iF jury has recognized Crown product design excellence 35 times since 1969. Crown’s QuickPick Remote is one of the first systems of its kind to utilize technology to reduce operator fatigue while improving productivity and safety. Order selectors simply press a button on a wireless transceiver glove to remotely advance the forklift to the next pick location, virtually eliminating the need to return to the operator compartment while picking.
The jury received more than 3,200 entries from 48 countries in 17 categories. Juries are comprised of internationally renowned experts from the fields of design, industry and education who work together to inspect, analyze and test each nomination for design quality, workmanship, choice of materials, degree of innovativeness, environmental compatibility, functionality, ergonomics, visualization of use, safety, branding and universal design.
2014 IFOY Awards Selects QuickPick® Remote Crown earned its second consecutive International Forklift Truck of the Year (IFOY) Award at the CeMAT trade fair in Hanover. QuickPick® Remote prevailed in the “Warehouse Trucks” category during an IFOY test week in real-world conditions. The independent jury of internationally respected trade journalists was especially impressed by the innovation, ergonomic efficiency and customer benefits embodied in the QuickPick Remote system. The jury stated that the highly innovative and well thought-out “magic glove” remote control concept was the key factor in choosing the Crown GPC 3000 with QuickPick remote control for the awards.
This followed Crown gaining the prestigious award for the InfoLink® wireless fleet and operator management system in the “Forklift Truck Solutions” category of the 2013 Awards.
