Liebherr has delivered the first ten LTM 1110-5.2 cranes featuring the new LICCON3 crane control to customers in Europe. One of them went to BKL Baukran Logistik GmbH. It has now successfully completed its first job – for building a new construction yard in Freilassing, Upper Bavaria, the 110 tonne crane with the new LICCON3 control installed concrete facade slabs carefully and with millimetre precision.

After intensive testing using several prototypes, Liebherr has delivered the first ten machines to customers in Europe – from the cold north to the warm South.

BKL has already successfully completed a first job with its new LTM 1110-5.2. With 13.4 tonnes of ballast on board, it was driven with an axle load of 12 tonnes to Freilassing in Upper Bavaria not far from Salzburg. No additional vehicle for transporting ballast was required for the installation of up to five tonnes of heavy prefabricated concrete components using hook heights of up to 27 metres and radii of up to 24 metres.

Crane operator Rolf is delighted with his new machine, which he was able to climb into and drive away straight away at BKL: “I went through the training for using the LICCON3 control at Liebherr without any problems. It is easy to understand, simple to operate and very practical in everyday job situations. The monitor displays a whole load of information at a glance. The crane movements are very sensitive. That enables me to thread face concrete facade slabs between two concrete walls with millimetre precision using the LTM 1110-5.2. The boom camera was a massive help as well.”

The LTM 1110-5.2 is the latest addition to the 130 mobile crane fleet at BKL. Managing Director Jörg Hegestweiler explained the decision to buy the new crane: “We want to provide both our customers and our team with the latest technology, perfect comfort and maximum safety combined with outstanding performance. In addition to the good performance data, the new crane control and the new cab were the outstanding features. The LTM 1110-5.2 will help us to satisfy our ambition to provide our customers with one of the most modern fleets in Europe from our nine sites – from a manoeuvrable 30 tonner to a 700 tonne giant.”

BKL Rosenheim, where the crane is currently in action, is planning to use the LTM 1110-5.2 for a very wide range of hoisting work. Its main area of use will be as a taxi crane. With a 60 metre boom, the partial ballast carried and its compact dimensions, the mobile crane is ideal for use in city centres, but also in industrial areas and on confined construction sites.
