Deutz TCD9.0 diesel of the year 2018

At 5 p.m., during Intermat Paris 2018, Diesel of the year award was officially assigned to the Deutz TCD9.0. Michael Wellenzohn, Board of Management, Responsible for Sales, Marketing and Service, and Frank Hiller, Chairman of the Board of Management took part in the awarding ceremony.  Following, the speech of the thirteenth edition of Diesel of the year award, held by DIESEL editorial staff. "Innovation is the keyword of the Diesel of the year award. Innovation is a word that has a thousand declensions. In the language of propulsion for industrial applications, it can mean efficiency, power density, emissions standards compliance, specific performances, and much ‘much’ more. So, what does the word innovation mean in the language of the Deutz TCD9.0?

First, a 9-liter 4-cylinder sounds absolutely unusual, just like the 2.9-liter and 3.6-liter Deutz engines that opened the new compact engine season eight years ago, 'downsizing' the 1-liter cylinder displacement in terms of spread to mobile applications. Second, 9 liters is a range of displacement where Deutz is a pioneer in the German ICE school. The third point is focused on dimensions. Call it power density, call it compactness, call it layout optimization, for every OEM the size of the engine vain is a pure obsession. And how did Deutz answer this question from the world of machinery manufacturers? According to DIESEL Magazine data sheets, the depth is comparable to that of a 5-liter engine, while the length is in the range of 6.7-liter engines".
