• Benninghoven's ECO 4000 asphalt mixing plants are being utilized by Groma Hold in Bulgaria, enhancing the company's existing fleet of construction machinery, which includes products from Wirtgen, Vögele, Hamm, and Kleemann.

 • The ECO 4000 model offers rapid installation and a high daily production output of 2,600 to 3,000 tons of asphalt, influencing Groma Hold's decision to acquire an additional plant and highlighting the potential for future modular upgrades.

 • Benninghoven has established a significant presence in Bulgaria since 2005, with a dedicated sales and service network through Wirtgen Bulgaria, and has multiple mixing plants operational across the country.

 • Asphalt produced by Benninghoven plants is critical for various Bulgarian infrastructure projects, with an annual production of 1,140,000 tons in 2021, and is used in major road constructions like the Struma and Botevgrad – Vidin motorways.

 • The installation of the first two ECO 4000 plants at Stara Zagora and Mezdra was completed within 45 days, emphasizing the importance of swift setup to meet the high demand for asphalt in ongoing and upcoming road construction projects.

 • Groma Hold is involved in the entire process chain from raw material extraction to asphalt production and installation, and is increasingly participating in EU-funded development programs aimed at integrating Bulgaria's national road network with the European transport system.

Fast installation and high daily production output in a wide range of road construction projects

Benninghoven has been active in the Bulgarian market since 2005 and has its own sales and service network in the country with Wirtgen Bulgaria. A number of mixing plants are currently in use throughout Bulgaria, as well as a number of polymer and emulsion plants.

With the ECO 4000 from Benninghoven, the infrastructure company Groma Hold has added another asphalt mixing plant to its machine fleet, which also includes milling machines, cold recyclers and slip form pavers from Wirtgen as well as Vögele pavers, Hamm rollers and Kleemann crushing and screening machinery.

ECO 4000 impresses with performance figures and fast installation

The fast installation and high daily production output of 2,600 to 3,000 t asphalt of the first two ECO 4000 plants were key factors in the construction company deciding to purchase another, identical plant. Other criteria were the option for retrofitting optional modules later on and the comprehensive range of services available from the local Wirtgen Group subsidiary.

“The high daily output of 2,600 to 3,000 tons and the fast installation of the ECO 4000 plants have really impressed us,” explains Viktor Velev, CEO of Groma Hold.

Asphalt needed for road construction projects throughout the country

The Benninghoven mixing plants are used in a number of different infrastructure projects in southern, north-western, north-eastern and central Bulgaria. Annual production and installation quantities of 1,140,000 t of asphalt (2021) document the demand for this material in the Southern European country. One example is the completion of the Struma motorway from Sofia to the Greek border or the Botevgrad – Vidin motorway section at the Romanian border. To integrate the national road network into the European transport system, various road construction projects are also receiving financial support from EU development programs.

To ensure that asphalt production in the Benninghoven mixing plants could start as soon as possible, prompt installation had already been a priority for the first two ECO 4000 plants at the Stara Zagora and Mezdra sites. Despite great logistical challenges, the plants were installed and commissioned within just 45 days.

Benninghoven is the leading manufacturer of multi-fuel burners with up to 4 fuels, including renewable variants such as biomass-to-liquid (BtL) or wood dust. EVO JET burners as a Retrofit solution are the ideal choice for modernising existing plants.

Large projects are supported by EU development programs

Like most Bulgarian companies, Groma Hold covers the entire process chain: from raw material extraction and processing to asphalt production and installation through to resurfacing. The company is becoming increasingly involved in projects funded through EU development programs which are helping to integrate the country’s national road network into the European transport system.
