EffiMat Storage Technology will be launching EffiMat®, the revolutionary new generation of VLMs, to the European markets at LogiMAT 2014.

 “We have spent the past two years developing and fine-tuning the EffiMat®. Now it is time to introduce EffiMat® to international markets, starting with Germany. We view LogiMAT 2014 as our German and European Premiere,” says co-founder and director Jørgen Flemming Ladefoged.

Just two years old, EffiMat already has an impressive resumé, with references including Airbus and US Air Force. EffiMat also produces the ClassicMat™, an updated version of a traditional vertical lift, which has been installed at various locations in Scandinavia, Germany and the USA.

 “Germany accounts for about 25% of annual sales in vertical lifts and automated storage. Therefore, it is natural for us to launch EffiMat® to the German market as the first step of our international launch program,” says Jørgen Flemming Ladefoged.

The new high speed generation of vertical lifts

“How does it make sense to lift a 400 kg and 4 meter wide steel tray up and down a vertical lift to pick one or a few small items?”; co-founder Tommy Langhoff asked Jørgen Flemming Ladefoged two years ago. He was visiting Jørgen at a logistics fair, and that question would be the beginning of the EffiMat®.

The basic principle of the EffiMat® is a modular system of smaller boxes that are able to move vertically as well as horizontally. An EffiMat® only picks the relevant boxes, instead of entire shelves.

One vertical sequence takes boxes from different vertical levels of the machine, delivering 10 boxes, and at least 10 different items, to the opening. This makes it possible to pick 10 different items from 10 different locations in the EffiMat in just one order, whereas a traditional VLM typically will have to bring 7-8 trays up and down in order to pick 10 items.

“We call it the new high speed generation of vertical lifts,” says Jørgen Flemming Ladefoged.

Revolutionary picking speed

The high picking speed is revolutionary, with the capability of picking up to 400 order-lines per hour, without batch picking. Compared to traditional VLMs, the EffiMat® is faster, more flexible, and has better ergonomics, due to a tilting mechanism at the opening.

Not only is the movement inside the machine faster, due to light weight construction and the light weight of the boxes as compared to trays, the principle also makes retrieval up to 5 times faster.

The speed can be improved further by adding openings in the sides of the machine, allowing automated replenishment and integration with other systems.
