Eleven Comansa CM tower cranes at Wynn Palace casino in Macau

Macau is, with Hong Kong, one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China. Shortly after its transference in 1999 by Portugal, Macau started reclaiming land from the sea to create a new 5.2 square kilometre area for leisure, gambling and tourism, named Cotai. Nowadays, Macau is the largest gambling centre in the world.

As in Las Vegas, Cotai has its own "Strip", a very long street where the main hotels, resorts and casinos are located. The enormous luxury resort Wynn Palace is being built since 2013 at the Cotai Strip, and will open in 2016.

To develop such huge project, Leighton Contractors (Asia) Limited is using eleven tower cranes from Comansa CM, sister company of Linden Comansa in China. The cranes, which are ten 21CJ290 and a 21CJ400, all flat-tops and with maximum load capacity of 18 tonnes, have been supplied by Hong Kong based Proficiency Equipment, official dealer of the Linden Comansa group.

The project is being quite a challenge for Proficiency Equipment as some of the tower cranes had to be relocated during the works and seven of them had to be climbed periodically: two with a hydraulic climbing cage, and five with an internal climbing system. Currently, all of the cranes are working at their maximum height under hook, and the tallest is up to 133.9 metres.
