First time Volvo for C D Mercer

Plant hire and general contractor C D Mercer has opted for a Volvo EC55C for the first time – the machine being supplied by Volvo Construction Equipment’s utility dealer for the north of Scotland, CSM Sales Ltd.

C D Mercer, a well-established, family run plant hire and general contracting business based in Perth, Scotland has taken delivery of a 5.5 tonne Volvo EC55C and is the first Volvo product to be added to the company’s fleet of mixed equipment. “We’re not exactly strangers to the Volvo EC55C having cross-hired in the model on quite a few occasions and we’ve been impressed with the machine’s fuel efficiency and operator comfort,” comments Proprietor, Colin Mercer. “In fact, when it comes to the operator’s environment and the overall build quality there isn’t a better machine in its size class, in our considered opinion,” he continues. 

Powered by a proven, direct injection Volvo diesel engine developing 35.1kw, the EC55C offers high performance, leading fuel efficiency and low emissions/noise. High performance tractive forces make levelling and backfilling quick and efficient work. The float blade provides precision finishing through a minimal, yet consistent amount of blade force and the heavy-duty travel pedals, comparable to those on heavier excavators, provide precision and an ease of operation. The machine features Volvo’s industry-leading comfortable cab for less fatigue and more production. The ergonomically-designed cab offers greater leg and foot room, making it one of the most spacious in its category. 

Specifically for C D Mercer, the machine has been specified with hose rupture valves on the boom and dipper cylinders and optional steel track pads. “Much of our contracting work is on private estates, building and maintaining tracks and hill roads. The EC55C’s operating weight and dimensions coupled to the addition of steel tracks is ideal for this purpose - being able to compact freshly laid hardcore and Type-1 material to a desired level.
