Fliegl EAGLE: The innovative rear view camera

Digital chip brings completely new image quality

The Fliegl EAGLE is a digital rear view camera with analogue output. This camera has a wider angle, is smaller and more robust than all analogue rear view cameras, and delivers superior image quality with its digital chip. Fliegl EAGLE is also faster than all digital rear view cameras. Its analogue output makes it immediately available for the entire market range.

The current standard for rear view cameras is the analogue camera. But these cameras have the disadvantage that, despite all the detail improvements over the past years, they still are still using decades-old imaging technology. Their camera chips do not bear comparison with modern digital cameras. On the other hand, digital cameras are technically far superior, but because of the lack of a standardised digital interface, they cannot be connected to any current tractor terminal. Till now, all proprietary digital camera solutions have failed when they have come up against this lack of availability.

Fliegl EAGLE has solved this problem. This camera combines the best of the analogue world with the best of the digital. Fliegl EAGLE uses a digital chip which produces better images than any analogue rear view camera and delivers them in analogue form after compression - which means that Fliegl EAGLE can now be used immediately in any tractor.

Fliegl EAGLE is tiny: Its outside dimensions are a super-compact 24 x 24 x 30 mm. Even including its mounting bracket (optional), it is smaller than all its competitors and can be neatly installed in places where other cameras would be simply too large.

Fliegl EAGLE has a small, but extremely hard and robust fisheye lens with a convex shape which gives it an image angle of 160°. Three times more image angle means three times less blind spot, which is a plus for visibility and safety!

Fliegl EAGLE offers you a rear view camera with a new type of image quality. The camera signal is processed digitally, i.e. it is sent over an 8-bit parallel bus to a digital signal processor. The processor (ISP Nextchip NVP2610) is located in the camera housing and performs different operations: firstly, it calculates the camera signal so as to remove the fisheye effect: objects close to the edge of the image are straightened out. Secondly, it performs ISP image defogging: this improves images that may be affected by haze or dust and produces a technically optimal image. Thirdly, the Fliegl EAGLE has strong dynamics. Even at 0.5 Lux, the camera delivers a practically useful image. The infrared LEDs common in analogue cameras are becoming superfluous. The camera quickly adjusts strong contrasts in the light conditions so that the full image can be represented in colour. The result is a sharper and more detailed image than that of an analogue camera, with extremely good day and night vision.

Because the image data are compressed only once and not decompressed again, the Fliegl EAGLE reduces glass-to-glass image lag to substantially below 70 milliseconds - this is about a tenth the time of digital cameras and is an important advantage for safety, since when reversing the vehicle is moving every millisecond.

Fliegl EAGLE conforms to protection class IP69K, has the maximum possible protection from water and dust ingress, and can be cleaned with a high-pressure/steam jet.

Fliegl EAGLE has a robust voltage input (with overvoltage and reverse polarity protection) of 7-33 Volt. The camera therefore covers not only the 12 Volt farming application range, but also the 24 Volt based range of trucks and construction machines. This extends the application range of the camera.

Fliegl EAGLE can be connected to an AEF standard analogue plug connection using an analogue connector. The camera covers all current standardised connections.

Fliegl EAGLE is designed for mounting on the rear bumper and therefore for rear area monitoring, but can also be usefully applied in process monitoring, for example inside push-off trailers, loader wagons or potato harvesters, on spreading gear (to monitor the feed), sugar beet overloading belts etc.

Unlike a number of fully-digitised proprietary camera solutions, Fliegl EAGLE does not represent mere theory, but provides a completely practical solution. Fliegl EAGLE is now in series production and can be supplied immediately. Present tractor monitors use an analogue input almost exclusively. This means that, with its analogue output, the Fliegl EAGLE can easily be implemented immediately over the whole range.

The Fliegl EAGLE can bring a rear view camera system which is significantly better in angle, image quality, transmission speed and robustness, to any tractor cab - and not through an external monitor, but directly through the tractor display.
