Fliegl HAWK: An extra pair of eyes

Front camera system increases safety when turning

The Fliegl HAWK increases safety on vehicles with a long front section when turning at junctions. The front camera system has two side-mounted cameras which monitor the left and right areas at the front of the vehicle and show the two images directly on a split screen on the ISOBUS display. The Fliegl HAWK eliminates blind spots, provides a view of the cross-traffic, and effectively prevents collisions. Side monitoring is particularly important for turning manoeuvres, for example when exiting country lanes onto roads where traffic is heavier. The Fliegl HAWK therefore helps to reduce the risk of accidents at points where the risk is particularly high.

The Fliegl HAWK is designed for use on vehicles with a long front section, and particularly vehicles that already have a front section longer than 3.5 m or which exceed this size when they are working with a front weight, front mower, sweeper machine, or other long front attachment.

Two cameras are installed for the camera system: One monitors the area to the left, and the other the area to the right at the front of the vehicle. The cameras have a narrow angle, i.e. they give a narrow but far-reaching view into the roads at the side. In the tractor cab, the two images are shown in split-screen form either directly on the ISOBUS display or optionally on an external monitor. Fliegl HAWK is comfortable: The driver can check both areas quickly and easily - at a single glance.

To implement the split screen ISOBUS display, Fliegl HAWK first puts the two images together in the appropriate box (two analogue camera inputs, one analogue camera output), then combines them together digitally in a split screen display. This box is connected to the analogue camera input of any ISOBUS tractor terminal and sends the split-screen image directly to the terminal display. The Fliegl M12 connectors are waterproof and dustproof, strain-relieved, robust and durable. The HAWK Box takes up little space in the tractor cab.

With Fliegl HAWK, the driver has another pair of eyes which let him see where he would otherwise be blind: When driving out of buildings, stables, plots of land, and when turning onto junctions where there is poor visibility etc., he can see far into the areas at the side. He can also see the cross-traffic which is approaching these junctions. No vehicles, pedestrians or obstacles are overlooked. The risk of accidents is significantly reduced.

And another benefit: Fliegl HAWK eliminates the need for signallers. For operating vehicles with a front section longer than 3.5 m, the StVO (German road traffic regulations) require that a signaller be present, but also allow the use of an equivalent mirror or camera system as substitute. This means that Fliegl HAWK vehicles with a long front section can be legally operated on roads even without a signaller present.

Driving with Fliegl HAWK means reducing the risk of accidents, physical injuries and material damage, with the reassuring feeling that you have the side areas in view and under control. These two “hawk eyes” from Fliegl HAWK bring a great plus for safety.
