Karl Thiel: "Experience tells us that the purchase price of a Kögel Euro Trailer is redeemed in a really short period of time."

Heinz Kolbe KG Spedition, based in Thannhausen, south-western Germany, has transported goods domestically and internationally for almost 60 years. The company specialises in the transport of food, paper rolls and beverages, and has been using Kögel trailers since 1993, true to its motto "In the region, for the region". The forwarding company places a high importance on the environmentally friendliness of its trailers in particular. To achieve even better CO2 emissions in future, Kolbe has decided to purchase five new Kögel trailers elongated by 1.3 m. As well as ecological advantages, these trailers have economic benefits.

Each new Euro Trailer Cargo Rail offers the forwarding company space for a total of 37 Euro pallets. That's four pallet bays more per trailer than provided by a standard trailer! The ecological and economic benefits for Kolbe are clear: up to 10% less fuel consumption, up to 10% less CO2 emissions, and – with an average utilisation of 80% – every 10th journey can be eliminated. Based on the legal requirements in Germany, these elongated trailers can naturally be used for combined transport too. Thanks to the gripper edges integrated into the frame, gripper jaw tarpaulin protection and the special axles in the rail design, the Euro Trailer Cargo Rail trailers can be loaded onto transport trains. The new trailers are designed for flexible loading onto the most common rail pocket wagons of types c, e, f, h and i. Naturally, the trailers are also certified in accordance with DIN EN 12642 Code XL and are therefore approved for transport by express freight train at speeds of up to 140 km/h. For optimal load-securing, the VarioFix perforated steel external frame is equipped with 15 pairs of lashing rings in the standard design, each ring affording 2,000 kg of tensile force.

Kolbe custom equipment

At the customer's request, Euro Trailer Cargo Rails are fitted out as per Daimler Directive 9.5. This includes pallet stops and end wall doubling amongst other things. Optional steel load-securing slats also serve as combination anchoring rails to which telescopic aluminium load-securing beams can be attached for the securing of partial loads. Further custom equipment includes a rain guard on the end frame, a bellows pressure gauge for monitoring the axle load, toolboxes, and much more.

"We have already had one of the 300 Kögel Euro Trailers with special approval in our fleet since 2006, and we are really pleased to be adding another five elongated trailers," says Karl Thiel, managing director of Heinz Kolbe KG Spedition. "From experience, we know that the higher purchase price is redeemed really quickly, and the ecological and economic benefits speak for themselves."
