Freight forwarding and logistics in the Czech Republic in 2015

The Czech Republic is part of an advanced Europe in which logistics is considered to be a significant driving force of national economies. Generally, throughout the whole world, logistics has gained in respect and significance, as big business can now be done virtually and electronically but then forwarders and logisticians have their turn. Actually, it is they who have to transport the goods physically from point A to point B.

What is the status of the Czech Republic? The answer is: “Very good!”

Advantages of the Czech Republic:

  1. splendid geographical position in the centre of Europe

  2. connections to the European motorway network

  3. densest railway network in Europe, with connections to other railways

  4. 4.7 million m2 of storage area at its disposal for Europe’s delivery systems

  5. the Elbe permits river transport as far as to the port of Hamburg

  6. labour force with knowledge of the logistics field

Freight forwarding is a service provided to the client. The forwarder offers servicing of the client’s goods. On the Czech market, practically all the major players in the logistics field are active: forwarding companies, seagoing ship owners and international hauliers, as well as logistics and financial groups.

In the Czech Republic, about 450 million tons of goods are transported by road yearly, and about 145 million tons by rail. Almost 100,000 people are employed in the fields of freight forwarding and logistics. Prague Airport increases its volumes of goods transhipped every year, and it is used by almost 10 million passengers a year.

The Czech Republic is an inland country which does not have direct access to the sea; nevertheless, it owns a small area in the port of Hamburg, the most important port for the Czech Republic. The distance of 670 km by road from the depot in Prague to Hamburg provides excellent conditions for road transport by truck.

On the railways between Hamburg and the Czech Republic, more than 80 compact container trains go to and fro every week.

Industrial associations representing logistics and shipping companies create conditions for supporting the logistics and forwarding business and they are ready to assist you.
