G & H Watson opts for a Volvo EC18C

Opting for their first Volvo compact excavator has proved to be the right decision for general building and groundwork contractors G & H Watson of Brechin, Angus thanks to a good long standing relationship with Volvo’s local utility equipment dealer CSM Sales Ltd.

“This is the first time we’ve tried a Volvo mini excavator having been associated with other brands in the past,” says proprietor Billy Watson. “So far we’ve been pleasantly surprised with the EC18C in terms of its digging performance, geometry, build quality and operator comfort. In addition we’ve had a long association with Calum Shaw even before he became Volvo’s utility dealer for the area so we know we can rely on him and the team at Volvo for support in the future,” he continues. 
 
The new Volvo EC18C is one of four machines ranging between 1.5 and 2.0 tonnes and is powered by a 12.3 Kw (16.8hp) engine. This particular model features automatic two-speed travel and extendable undercarriage as standard. One significant feature is that hydraulic hoses for the digging equipment are routed through the boom and cylinders are top mounted to minimize on-site damage. The machine supplied to G & H Watson is fitted with a ROPS cab – a canopy cab version is also available. The 1.8 tonne compact excavator also benefits from a load-sensing hydraulic system for fast cycle times, even when carrying out multiple functions. Maximum dig depth is a generous 2.3 metres.

A single piece engine hood provides unobstructed access to all the engine components whilst the instrument panel provides at-a-glance monitoring of all key functions. The cab’s easy to clean flat floor panel lifts for access to hydraulics and main control valve. 

G & H Watson carry out general construction, complete house building projects, bespoke build and groundworks projects. The company also specialises in drainage and sewerage work and the installation of septic tanks, covering the north east of Scotland.
