Game, Set and Match - Another Faultless Tournament!

Wimbledon Centre Court’s Retractable roof was once again expertly maintained and operated by SCX Special Projects’ expert engineers throughout the 2015 Championships.

Leading up to the Championships, SCX Special Projects works around the clock to ensure that the roof is prepped and ready for the tournament. The team are then also on hand throughout the Championships to monitor and control the roof to ensure it operates at peak efficiency.

John Biggin, Project Manager of the Wimbledon Roof Maintenance team, reported that “from SCX Special Projects’ point of view, 2015 was another successful Championships. The heat was extreme on Wednesday 1st July, so even with no rain our engineers were busy adjusting the roof to keep the sun off the royal box and its occupants.

“We had to keep an eye on how the heat would affect the electrical components that control the roof, but with a supply of site-ready spares our vigilant team of expert engineers were able to ensure that everything continued to run smoothly and there were no interruptions to play.”

Despite the lack of rain, the tournament ended with the roof closed over the Men’s Final Presentations and the Ladies Invitation Doubles that had been moved from Court 1 due to low light.
