Gas Tank Transport and Lifting Technology

In mid-February, Felbermayr employees from the Wels and St. Pölten branches were deployed to one of the largest slaughtering and meat packing companies in Austria. The transport and lifting tasks included positioning two gas tanks for meat production on their foundations.

The two gas tanks, weighing approximately three and 16 tons respectively, were picked up at the Linde branches Schalchen in Bavaria and Lambach in Upper Austria. The heavier tank was transported on a semi-trailer and the lighter one on a platform trailer. The transport configuration with the tank weighing 16 tons reached a length of some 20 metres and a transport height of more than four metres. "That's why we had to obtain a permit for road transport", Thomas Pamminger from the transport department in Wels reports.

The tanks were positioned on their foundations in Eggenburg by means of an LTM 1250. "Due to the fact that we needed to deal with an outreach of some 34 metres, the crane had to be ballasted to its full capacity of some 100 tons", Pamminger explains. In addition, the federal road needed to be closed temporarily. This was necessary due to the fact that the tanks needed to be swung over the road to be positioned on their foundations. A second crane with working platform was used for the removal of the lifting gear after the tanks had been positioned on their foundations. The gas tanks are used for further optimisation of the production and packing processes.
