Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP) is pleased to announce that it revealed several value enhancing innovations at the second Genie Technical Summit, held on 2nd and 3rd June in Disneyland, Paris. Attended by 127 rental customers, authorized distributors and service providers from Europe, The Middle East, Africa and Russia (EMEAR) under the theme “Discovering the Future,” this year’s on-stage presentations and hands-on workshops provided insights into the company’s latest innovations, and how Genie applies today’s leading-edge technology to make its customers’ business easier and more profitable.

“We are dedicated to the success of our customers’ business,” says Sebastian Umbreit, Senior Director Operations and Aftermarket, Terex AWP, EMEAR. “This means listening to their needs and offering solutions that both help increase return on total invested capital and reduce total cost of ownership. By means of open dialogue with our technical teams, each edition of the Genie Technical Summit is a unique opportunity to hear our customers’ opinions and measure their level of satisfaction. With 30 percent more customers than our first Technical Summit held in The Netherlands in 2013, the result of this year’s event was extremely successful.”

To illustrate how the Genie team innovates to support its customers, in his presentation, Brad Allen, Terex AWP Global Vice President Marketing, Product Management and Engineering took the design of the Genie® SX-180 boom lift as an example. While its main components are made of steel, this impressive machine weighs 50 percent less than it would have if it had not benefitted from the intelligent application of today’s state-of-the-art technology. The result? The right equation of performance, towering 186 ft (56,7 m) working height, efficient fuel consumption, easy transportation via standard truck, and unique design features - all of which help to reduce cost of ownership, maximize return on investment to support business success.

Terex AWP is one of the only aerial work platform manufacturers to provide its customers with telematics solutions to support their daily business. It is also the only company to produce machines featuring a universal telematics-ready connector. Highlighting the proven benefits of telematics solutions, Jacques Valckenaere, Key Account Manager, Trackunit, a Terex AWP fleet management solutions supplier, provided an overview of the status, the evolutions to be expected, and the advantages of the flexible solutions provided in Genie products, compared to other all-in-one fleet management packages.

Matthew Skipworth, Terex AWP, EMEAR Service Solutions Manager, discussed Genie Service Solutions (GSS). GSS is a flexible, comprehensive after-sales service offering. Its multiple options aim to provide the expert support customers need to keep machines well maintained, certified and safe, while reducing total cost of ownership and increasing machine utilization and end-user satisfaction.

Focusing on recent innovations, attendees took part in interactive workshops, among which the troubleshooting workshop demonstrated a new, fast calibration system. Available on models of the new GTH™ telehandler range, this system enables operators to calibrate machines in two easy steps without counterweight via a control screen inside the operator cab. Attendees were invited to try for themselves. In most instances the machine was fully calibrated in less than one and a half minutes.

Unique in the access equipment sector, and only available to owners of Genie® equipment, the benefits of NanoClear+, a new repellent and protective paint coating were demonstrated by Jack Steur, Director of Steur Industrial Coating BV. This high-shine paint coating option uses today’s cutting-edge nano technology to both protect machine paintwork from chipping as well as from damage caused by paint, oil, diesel, cement, chemicals and salt corrosion. A real bonus for rental companies, in addition to keeping machines looking smarter for longer, the repellent properties of NanoClear+ coatings also offer the advantage of making equipment much faster and easier to keep clean, which helps to reduce labour costs.

Focusing on safety and uptime, Terex AWP specialists presented the benefits of the company’s technical and operator training. As part of the company’s educational programme, this workshop notably featured the presentation of an innovative cost-efficient computerized simulator designed to simplify Genie® Z™-boom lift operator training.

The Track & Trace workshop provided the time to take a closer look at this flexible fleet management solution with real-time examples. Linked to the Genie® telematics-ready connector, the Trackunit™ Track & Trace system offers the benefits of a wide range of fleet management functions, among which hour-meter reporting, location, machine utilization, and security abilities such as geo-fencing, alarms by movement and remote machine disabling.

The Digital Solutions workshop focused on applications that help prevent and identify malfunctions. Demonstrations enabled participants to see how Genie Digital Solutions focus on uptime by providing the ability to resolve problems more easily to get machines back to work more rapidly.
