GovPlanet EU to officially launch at DVD2016 show

GovPlanet EU – IronPlanet’s compelling new platform for the fast and efficient disposal of government surplus equipment, is to officially launch in Europe at the DVD2016 show in the UK. The event, which will take place at Millbrook Proving Ground on the 7th and 8th September, will bring together those from the Land Equipment sector to develop ideas and generate an increased understanding of technologies, capabilities and requirements.

This is the third event that will be jointly run by Army Headquarters and Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), and will bring together the military, industry and acquisition community. More than 250 companies are expected to exhibit at this industry renowned show. The aim of the DVD2016 show is to showcase various equipment and technologies that can support a British Army to meet future challenges, something which GovPlanet EU is heavily invested in. GovPlanet EU will be exhibiting on stand number C3-604 for the two-day event.

The launch of GovPlanet EU follows several years of success in reaching global buyers and sellers for IronPlanet. In July 2014, IronPlanet announced its partnership with the United States Defence Logistics Agency (DLA) – an arm of the Department of Defence. IronPlanet consequently became the DLA’s global partner for the disposal of surplus rolling stock via a dedicated online marketplace.

GovPlanet EU is an expanded version of the GovPlanet model which launched in the States in November 2014. Jeff Holmes, Senior Vice President of Government Solutions at IronPlanet, commented on the successful launch of the GovPlanet model in the States: “The success from the first GovPlanet auction was astounding. We had people from 27 states bidding on equipment from 16 DLA sites across the United States. But what really stood out was that we sold 100% of the equipment in half the time of the previous contractor, with an improvement in price performance of approximately 300%. That was the start of what has become IronPlanet’s GovPlanet platform for federal, state and local entities, and we are pleased to bring these dedicated solutions to the European market.”

This successful GovPlanet model has also been introduced into the European market via several DLA equipment auctions. IronPlanet’s inaugural DLA equipment auction in Europe received a strong response, drawing more than 40,000 unique visitors from over 115 countries. In the last 12 months, more than 200 unique buyers from 30 countries worldwide have bought equipment from the DLA on IronPlanet EU.

Due to the resounding success of the GovPlanet auctions in the US and the DLA equipment auctions in Europe, IronPlanet are to officially launch GovPlanet EU as a platform in its own right - and will effectively be an expanded version of the DLA equipment auctions. David Shouesmith, Managing Director GovPlanet EU, commented on the platform’s exciting launch: “The DVD2016 is the ideal event for GovPlanet EU to officially launch, as it is a well-established show which attracts a range of military personnel. We look forward to continuing to orchestrate great relationships with disposal agencies and various other public sector entities to assist with the growth of GovPlanet EU.”

GovPlanet EU deals exclusively in military equipment, and assists government agencies to achieve faster sales and generate high returns on their equipment. Similarly to IronPlanet, equipment in GovPlanet EU’s weekly auctions will feature IronPlanet’s IronClad Assurance® equipment condition certification. All items are inspected by IronPlanet’s trained and certified inspectors. These reports are available to bidders ahead of the auction dates and enable the sale of surplus equipment online by building buyer confidence.
