GRI pays Tribute to the Noble Farmer at Agritechnica

Farming is a profession where there are no certainties, no guarantees, no promises given, and no excuses taken. “We all know this lifestyle is not for the faint of heart. It does take a special kind of person to devote his or her life to be a successful farmer – one who is compassionate, resilient, honest and devoted. For generations, they have worked hard to build a farming heritage that continues to thrive today,” stated Mr. Prabhash Subasinghe, Managing Director of GRI.

GRI has devoted much effort to understand the needs and aspirations of farmers around the world. With this understanding and insight, we embarked on a journey to build the perfect agriculture tires to serve these farmer’s needs. We built a state-of-the art factory in Sri Lanka in 2018 and named the tires we developed for these farmers GREENEX, in keeping to our mission of building these tires in a sustainable and ethical manner.

GRI has deep roots in Sri Lanka, which has a rich agriculture heritage spanning over 2500 years. We take pride in our country’s agriculture heritage and legacy. GRI also cares deeply about environmental sustainability. With these aspects deeply rooted in our core, it comes naturally for GRI, to understand the farmer, to make the farmer’s life easier and pay tribute to the immense service they provide to the world.

GRI knows it is the noble farmers toil that provides nourishment to the people. This is honest and hard work in the sun, fuelled by the farmer’s relentless work ethic and the uncompromising performance of his machinery.  These tractors, harvesters and trailers in turn depend on their tires to provide the traction they need to get the job done. Therefore, the farmer relies on the tires of their machines. Without the assured performance of these tires they cannot nourish the world around them.

“GRI is also indebted to the farmer who supplies us natural rubber as the first link in the chain of making agriculture tires and supplying them to the farmer who uses the tires in their machines. These farmers from one end to the other lead a simple and humble life, but in our eyes, they are magnanimous,” proclaimed Dr. Mahesha Ranasoma, CEO of GRI.

The unique geographical location of Sri Lanka, with its ideal climate and rich soil, makes it perfect for growing natural rubber trees. High quality natural rubber is tapped from trees in the early hours of the morning, is collected and carefully processed. This distinctive natural rubber ensures exceptional quality and is used in all GRI’s tires. We care for our tires from careful selection of the finest raw material to the product that leaves our factory.

“The natural rubber utilized by GRI is sourced from smallholder rubber farmers of Sri Lanka. This is our way of giving back to our nation’s rubber farmers and putting forth the stance of connecting one farmer to the other, setting aside the fact that they are of different trades, but embracing the fact that together these farmers connect the world we live today. The Sri Lankan rubber farmer is the first link in the value chain that would ultimately deliver a high-performance agriculture tire to a farmer anywhere in the world. Along this chain are many entities that add value in each step and create a strong bond linking farmer to farmer, from origin to destination. Being at the centre of this value chain GRI has created the GREEN-X Circle connecting these farmers.” explains Dr. Mahesha Ranasoma, CEO of GRI.

GRI is committed to sustainable development of this journey from the origin of a rubber tree farm in Sri Lanka to the destination of farms around the world. We are deeply devoted to ensuring that the rubber farmer, as our primary resource in the value chain, earns a fair share and their families and communities are uplifted socio-economically. We do this under our strict ethical and environmental sustainability principles with the aim of empowering the rubber farmers.

Our commitment to sustainability is found in every aspect of GRI. It is of utmost importance and enforced through green policies on raw material, production process, waste management and energy utilization. GRI’s responsibility to sustainability is evident through our solar panel power system that covers the entire roof of our factory, utilization of biomass boilers and fully recyclable waste and water management systems. Our factory is a testament to the pioneering spirit and values embodied by everyone at GRI. We strive to be the sustainable solution for the Specialty Tire industry, not only for the well-being of today’s global community, but also for generations to come.

As an important link in the value chain of connecting farmers, GRI extends utmost appreciation to our distributors, dealers and retailers, who strengthen the chain that connects the Sri Lankan rubber farmer to all the farmers around the world in the GREEN-X Circle.

GRI knows that farming machinery is getting more powerful, as farmers strive for more productivity to feed the world’s population. Technological innovation, engineering strength and operational excellence ensure that GRI tires exceed the most demanding expectations of farmers. Made from top-grade Sri Lankan natural rubber and engineered to exacting standards, GRI’s high-performance agricultural tires reduce soil compaction while increasing traction and productivity.

We are a company built on quality, authenticity and integrity. Whatever you are growing in the fields, wherever you are building on earth, and however you’re shaping the landscape for future generations, you can rely on the assured performance of GRI tires. Whatever your hopes and dreams, trust GRI. We’ll get you there. We believe that farming is not just work, but a way of life. It is not just a livelihood, but a lifeline to a sustainable community. GRI invites our distributors, dealers, retailers and OEMs to join this endeavour of the GREEN-X Circle and contribute in every possible way to pay tribute to farmers across the world – from origin to destination.
