The project is supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and seeks to advance zero-emission solutions for Non-Road Mobile Machinery.
H2MAC is a European project paving the way towards the decarbonization of heavy-duty machinery for the construction and mining sectors through hydrogen fuel cell technology.
H2MAC is project that aims to design and demonstrate an innovative, efficient, quiet, modular and scalable Fuel Cell Electric (FCE) powertrain concept for Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM) in construction and mining applications that features a harsh environment, particularly dust and vibration.
The development of this FCE powertrain concept needs to gather several innovations beyond the state-of-the-art related to electrification of machinery, noise and vibration mitigation, use of a Fuel Cell (FC) in NRMM and the development of components related to the powertrain and other subsystems.
The objectives of H2MAC project can be achieved only through a multidisciplinary consortium with a well-balanced contribution from partners, covering the needs and complementing the knowledge basis and expertise. H2MAC partners have been carefully selected based on the added value they give to the project.
The H2MAC consortium includes 8 partners from 5 countries (Spain, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Turkey) each having knowledge and experience in relevant scientific and technological fields required by the objectives of the project (electrification, hydrogen, vibration and noise mitigation, …).
The consortium is composed of different research and technological partners (ITA, Tampere University - TAU), component manufacturers (POWERCELL, MANN+HUMMEL), Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM) manufacturers (HIDROMEK, ZB) and private non-profit organizations (ANMOPYC, FHa), all committed to the promote the use of hydrogen as an energy vector.
Two new hydrogen-powered machines will be developed as part of H2MAC:
-
A 120 kW excavator
-
A 240 kW shredder
Both prototypes will be demonstrated for 1,000 hours under real working conditions in a quarry, testing the performance and reliability of hydrogen fuel cell technology in demanding environments.
