Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV (HCME) has appointed a new dealer for its customers in Romania. Utirom Invest SRL is located on the outskirts of Bucharest with a 4,000m2 workshop, warehouse and office space. The company will distribute a wide range of Hitachi equipment, including Zaxis-5 excavators (mini, medium and large), ZW-5 wheel loaders, rigid dump trucks and Hitachi-Sumitomo cranes.

Led by General Manager Claudiu Barbulescu, the company currently has 11 employees and plans to expand its personnel later in the year. Its strategy for the Romanian market is focused on providing a first-class after-sales service. “Our initial goal is to bring back existing Hitachi customers through our after-sales team. We have hired one of the best service teams on the market and it represents more than 80% of our personnel.”

Expected growth

The Romanian construction market is characterized by a wide variety of industry solutions, including general construction and infrastructure projects, road construction, dam construction, mining and quarrying, waste and recycling, and forestry.

The industry is expected to grow in the coming years due to considerable investment from the government in road development and plans to expand the country’s educational infrastructure. Foreign direct investment in construction and real estate has also increased in recent years and will continue to drive growth.

This suggests that the country holds significant potential for Hitachi construction equipment, which is perceived to be a premium brand among Romanian customers. “The most popular Hitachi models in the Romanian market include the ZX210LC and ZX250LC medium excavators, and the ZW180 and ZW220 wheel loaders,” adds Claudiu. “We hope to build on the brand’s reputation and increase market share over the coming years.”
