Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV and KTEG are exhibiting the KMC1200S-7 on their stand at Bauma. One of Europe’s largest high-reach demolition excavators, the 180- tonne model won a prestigious World Demolition Award in November 2024 and sets a new standard in heavy-duty machinery in a growing sector. It is perfectly suited for dismantling the decommissioned coal power plants situated all over Europe.
The KMC1200S-7 has been designed for durability and reliability in tough demolition job site environments. It features a newly engineered chassis with optimised lifting angle and an oversized slew ring, which is three times larger than comparable models in this class.
The excavator delivers optimum productivity thanks to its modular front design, which allows the maximum tool weight to be used at any height to complete extensive projects on time. This modularity convinced the KHL jury in November 2024 to recognise this machine as a worthy award-winner. It can be operated with a 51 m boom and 3 t tool weight, as well as with 41 m boom / 5 t tool weight or 28 m boom /15 t tool weight. Boom adjustments can be made quickly and safely due to the almost leak-free hydraulic connections for every part.
Operators can easily view the position of the actual boom configuration and corresponding safe working ranges using the Load Moment Indication System for intuitive and safe operation. They can also be assured of best-in-class stability, which is achieved by the almost square footprint and 30 t counterweight of the KMC1200S-7.
A further advantage of this innovative machine is that it can be set up autonomously without a crane, because of the hydraulic removable counterweight and removable track frames. This simplifies installation and transportation, contributing to a reduced total cost of ownership, and enhancing the flexibility of the machine on site.
“Like all KTEG machines, the KMC1200S-7 reflects our relentless pursuit of innovative and durable solutions that not only increase efficiency, but also significantly improve customer safety,” says KTEG Managing Director Harald Thum. “As the winner of this year’s World Demolition Award, it highlights KTEG’s position as a pioneer in demolition technology.” This special application machine has been developed by KTEG GmbH, the joint venture between Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd and Kiesel Technologie Entwicklung GmbH.
