Hitachi exhibits new ZX55U-6 mini excavator at Bauma

The user-friendly ZX55U-6 offers high levels of performance, stability, comfort and easy maintenance. The new Zaxis-6 excavator can be used with a variety of attachments, and is ideal for rental, utilities, foundation work, landscaping and indoor demolition or construction projects. It is equipped with a Stage V-compliant engine and a DPF after-treatment device to reduce emissions.

The ZX55U-6 is fitted with an EGR for reducing NOx and a DPF to reduce particulate matter. The common rail system helps the engine to run optimally, not only reducing emissions, but also contributing to fuel efficiency and reduced running costs. The ECO mode, auto idle and isochronous control features also significantly reduce fuel consumption.

Exceptional comfort

Operator comfort was an important factor in the design of the Zaxis-6 mini excavator range. The ROPS-compliant cab of the ZX55U-6 is spacious like previous Zaxis-5 models. It is easy to access using the entrance step, and the wide adjustable sliding suspension seat is surrounded by user-friendly controls within easy reach. Hydraulic pilot levers are used to operate the front, boom swing, travel and blade.

The ZX55U-6 is equipped with new LED lights – two on the cab and another on the boom. These have a longer lifetime than halogen alternatives for efficient energy use. An optional sun visor on the front window enhances visibility in strong sunlight.

The blade is 90mm longer than on the previous model. The distance between the tip of the bucket and blade is now shorter, which means more material can be gathered and less remains for the operator to clear manually.

The optional auxiliary function lever (AFL) is useful for various attachments such as a hydraulic breaker. It has a proportional switch for extra piping, and allows for smooth operation and excellent control during manoeuvres. A second AFL for additional piping is also available as a factory option.

Easy to maintain

Ease of maintenance is an integral part of the user-friendly design of the new ZX55U-6. The engine and radiator covers are designed to allow easy access. More space around the fuel tank opening makes the new mini excavator easier to refuel.

It is also easier to clean the undercarriage thanks to the soil-free truck structure from which accumulated mud and sand can be easily removed. Dozer blade openings help to minimise the build-up of dirt and make it quicker to remove. The battery is positioned on the same side as the radiator for convenient access. The battery disconnect switch is now available as standard for safer and easier maintenance.

Hitachi mini excavators are renowned for durability, and features such as the high-performance bushings on the front, box sectioned rigid frame blade, D-section frame skirt, and boom cylinder guard ensure high levels of productivity and availability.

Seigo Yamamoto, HCME Product Manager for Mini & Compact Products, says: “The ZX55U-6 may be among the smaller machines manufactured by Hitachi, but it is still powerful, fast and energy-efficient. The DPF after-treatment device reduces harmful emissions, helping to create a healthier environment for the operator to work in. Hitachi Zaxis-6 mini excavators have been designed to exceed the expectations of owners and operators across Europe, and we believe that they will succeed.”
