Hitachi mini excavator is a perfect fit for groundworks project

A new Zaxis-6 mini excavator is proving to be a valuable addition to a UK civil engineering firm’s fleet of Hitachi machinery. The ZX26U-6 was delivered by HCM(UK) to West Midlands-based Jim Dorricott Ltd for a groundworks project on a commercial/retail development on the outskirts of Telford.

The contractor is using the ZX26U-6 to excavate parts of the two-hectare site so that operators can investigate and remove the existing services. It selected the Hitachi mini due to positive experiences with its four Zaxis medium excavators. One of these, a ZX225USLC-5, is working alongside the mini to dig deeper and lay sewage pipes connecting the site to the main sewer.

“Hitachi machines are reliable, and we’ve never had a problem with them,” says Director Russell Buckley. “We needed a smaller machine that wouldn’t damage the pipes, so the ZX26U-6 was ideal. The new Hitachi Zaxis-6 mini excavator has excellent all-round visibility, and is noticeably more economical.”

Experienced operator Derek Jones, who has been utilising the mini excavator on site, is also happy with the machine’s efficiency and comfort. “I’ve been working in the construction industry for 38 years, operating machines from two to 70 tonnes,” he says. “The ZX26U-6 is comfortable, and easy to get in and out of to change attachments. This is really important as it saves time on this type of project.”
