Hitachi presents the ZX470LCH-5 excavator

The Hitachi ZX470LCH-5 large excavator is ideal for working in challenging environments, such as large-scale construction projects and quarries. It has also been designed with the customer firmly in mind. After listening to owners and operators of its construction machinery from all over Europe, Hitachi has incorporated a wide selection of beneficial features in terms of sustainability, productivity, durability, comfort and safety, and easy maintenance.

Hitachi is dedicated to the sustainability of its products. That’s why the ZX470LCH-5 is equipped with a powerful Isuzu Stage IIIB-compliant engine that delivers higher productivity with greater fuel efficiency. It can operate with up to 13 per cent less fuel consumption than the Zaxis-3 model (in PWR mode). A muffler filter helps reduce emissions by capturing air pollutants; and the auto shutdown and auto idler features enhance fuel consumption and reduce noise, exhaust emissions and CO².

The HIOS IIIB hydraulic system, which allows for faster operation with lower fuel consumption, and increased front speed ensure the ZX470LCH-5 can deliver high levels of productivity. In addition, an increase of ten per cent for the auto-power boost and auto-power lift result in an enhanced level of excavating performance and lifting power.

For added durability in tough working conditions, the ZX470LCH-5 has a reinforced undercarriage and strengthened front attachment. The ROPS-compliant CRES V (centre pillar reinforced structure) cab meets ISO standards for safety and will protect the operator in the unlikely event of the machine tipping over.

In terms of comfort, the cab of the ZX470LCH-5 has been designed to exceed expectations. The fully adjustable air suspension seat absorbs vibrations and helps to minimise operator fatigue. A sliding mechanism allows it to slide back further than before, and more space below the multi-function LCD monitor creates even more leg room.

To save customers time and money, the ZX470LCH-5 has been designed with several easy maintenance solutions. The fuel filters and engine oil filter can be replaced from the excavator’s walkway, and other work on the upper structure such as replacing the air cleaner, can also be carried out easily. The addition of a solenoid fuel pump means there is no need to pump manually if the engine stops due to lack of fuel or while the main fuel filter is being changed.

The Zaxis-5 range has been created at the Design Centre at Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (HCM) in Japan. Yusuke Kajita, General Manager of HCM's Construction Equipment Development Centre, says: “The most important consideration in the design of the Zaxis-5 models was reliability. Our customers need good machines and want to make more profit as a result of their investments.”
