HTC-86110 Works at New Cherry Valley Road/OH-16 Interchange in Newark, OH

Capital City Group, with five branch offices throughout Ohio and West Virginia, has twenty-two years of experience in the crane business. Recently, Capital City Group took ownership of a new 110-ton (100 mt) Link-Belt HTC-86110 hydraulic truck crane.

Paired with an HTC-8690, the HTC-86110 recently lifted multiple bridge beams into place for a new partial cloverleaf interchange at Ohio 16 and Cherry Valley Road near Newark, Ohio. The new interchange replaces a traffic light that interrupted passengers’ commute along a 23 mile stretch of limited-access, divided highway from Interstate 270 in Columbus. The $31.6 million project is set to be completed by fall 2016.

Operator George Spohn operates the new HTC-86110 that lifts during nighttime hours to avoid further traffic congestion. Over the course of two nights, a rolling road block is used while the HTC-86110 lifts from the median of Ohio 16 and the HTC-8690 from the elevated Cherry Valley Road level above. Each crane uses flanged clamp rigging to hold each of the sections of steel. Once each section rests into place, the steel beams are bolted together to form a 115 ft. section for each side of the four lane roadway. Capital City Group lifts 36 steel beams in total, twelve 22,500 lb. and quantity 24, 11,700 lbs. for the project.

“I started out operating in 1978 and had a 22-ton Link-Belt and we eventually moved up to a 70-ton Link-Belt and then later a 90-ton. We got this 110-ton about 3 months ago and I really like the boom charts in it, and the 16,000 pounds of line pull, that really helps out – keeps us from having to change the block as much,” says Spohn.
