Yesterday, it was announced that Huisman’s Hybrid Boom Crane is one of the three nominees for this year’s Maritime Innovation Award. The final winner will be announced during the Maritime Awards Gala on Monday 2 November.
The Hybrid Boom Crane provides an optimum solution for the growing operational challenges of subsea construction. This crane design maintains the advantage of the knuckle boom functionality, providing a low suspension point which is essential for offshore construction activities, without the disadvantages of conventional knuckle boom cranes, such as the heavy boom that affects the crane load curves and impacts ship stability. The crane is designed to execute projects in deep and ultra-deep waters and is able to handle large and heavy loads in hostile environmental conditions.
The Maritime Innovations Award was introduced in the year 2000 by Holland Marine Equipment, the Dutch association of maritime suppliers, to increase awareness for the innovative power of the maritime and offshore supply industry and to encourage innovative developments within the maritime cluster. The winning innovation must be applied in practice, be sold to at least one relevant customer and must meet the following criteria:
-
widely applicable within the maritime sector;
-
good sales and export potential;
-
demonstrable Dutch added value.
Over the years, Huisman has won the award twice: in 2012 for the Dual Multi-Purpose Tower and in 2007 for Complex Subsea Pipelay Systems.
