Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas today introduced its largest-capacity wheel loader model, the HL985A, among the new machines included in its exhibit at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2023.

As the largest model in Hyundai’s A series wheel loader product line, the new Hyundai HL985A wheel loader offers a standard bucket capacity of 9.1-yd3 (7.0-m3) for use in high-production jobs such as quarrying, aggregates and other mass-volume material handling applications.

“We refer to the HL985A as a ‘true two-pass’ wheel loader because it can fill one of our HA30 articulated dump trucks with two bucket loads,” said Joe Turnage, Senior Product Manager, Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas. “With the addition of the HL985A, the Hyundai wheel loader line includes models that fulfill the needs of every important wheel loader application. At the same time, like every A Series wheel loader model, the new Hyundai HL985A provides the combination of power, performance, fuel efficiency, and operator safety and comfort that successful contractors expect from Hyundai.”

The Hyundai HL985A wheel loader is powered by a 430-hp (320-kW) Cummins X12 Performance Series engine, delivering optimum power and torque, while being highly fuel efficient and meeting Tier 4 Final and Stage 5 emissions standards. “Our customers tell us they appreciate that our A Series wheel loaders do not use Exhaust Gas Recirculation because it is not necessary to do periodic shut-downs,” said Turnage.

Heavy-duty ZF axles with wet outboard brakes and with coolers are standard equipment on the HL985, which is powered by a ZF 5-speed transmission.

A Series wheel loaders offer advanced features

The Hyundai HL985A offers a range of advanced standard features. For example, Smart Power Mode reduces fuel consumption by adjusting the engine speed in heavy-duty applications. This can save fuel while also balancing traction and breakout forces for greater productivity.

Hyundai’s Eco Gauge function enables the operator to monitor fuel consumption in real time or to review historical data. Displayed values include engine torque, fuel efficiency, average and total fuel consumed. Hourly and daily fuel consumption also is viewable through the menu.

The Electro-Hydraulic (EH) control system improves precision and ease of operation, contributing to increased productivity and reduced operator fatigue. The EH control lever facilitates easy operation of attachments with integrated, third-spool proportional auxiliary control. Other important operator comfort and safety features include heated air-ride seat; cab heater and air conditioner; rearview camera; electronically adjustable, heated and foldable rearview mirrors; AM/FM radio with Bluetooth; and a 7-inch multi-function monitor and control panel.

For high-volume, material-handling applications that require monitoring and reporting the weight of materials loaded or moved, Hyundai’s enhanced, proprietary onboard weighing system is accurate to +/- 1 percent, and includes a cumulative weighing function that facilitates the creation of production reports.

The HL985A wheel loader also is available with Hyundai’s exclusive All-Around View Monitoring (AAVM) system. Now enhanced with radar, the AAVM system includes four cameras, providing 360-degree views, and incorporates motion detection for enhanced operator and jobsite safety.

Standard with the HL985A bucket is a 3-piece bolt-on cutting edge. Also standard is an auto-level feature that helps prevent bucket spillage. A heavy counterweight enhances the machine’s stability. Dual batteries ensure dependable electric supply.

Easy Maintenance and Service

Consolidated service drains and diesel exhaust fluid tank spout are conveniently located on the right side of the wheel loader.

The hood opens and closes via electronic control. Dual battery boxes and swing-out cooling package are easily accessible. The in-cab HVAC system filter is within easy reach for removal and replacement.

Industry-leading standard warranty

The Hyundai HL985A wheel loader is covered by the industry-leading Hyundai standard warranty of 3 years or 3,000 hours plus a 5-year, 10,000-hour structural warranty, and a lifetime limited center pin warranty. Optional Hyundai extended warranties are available.

The HL985A is further protected by five years’ free use of Hi MATE, Hyundai’s proprietary remote management system that allows 24/7 global tracking and monitoring of engine, hydraulics, electrical systems and other key components to facilitate preventive maintenance and reduce downtime.
