IranConMin – the Iranian trade fair for the construction, building materials and mining industry – is celebrating the fair’s 10th anniversary in Teheran from October 26 – 29, 2012. Since its premiere in 1994, IranConMin has seen continuous growth, and even demonstrated strength and continuity during the years of crisis. 2004 marks the first time that IranConMin was held in conjunction with IranStoneMac, an accompanying event for the natural-stone sector that covers everything from extraction to processing and the final product. During the anniversary year 2012, for the first time ever the fair is being held together with the International Mining Congress. As its industry’s most important congress, the International Mining Congress is extremely well known in Iran. Thank to its diverse range of lectures, it will do a unique job of rounding out this year’s IranConMin.
Despite the difficult economic environment, Iranian imports of construction and building-material machines have increased consistently during the past five years – the only exception being “crisis year” 2009. Last year the country imported equipment worth nearly EUR 550 million, which is a 35% increase over the previous year. “This development will also be obvious at this year’s fair,” explains Harald Müller, Managing Director of IMAG – Internationaler Messe- und Ausstellungsdienst. “After all, despite the effects of the embargo and restrictions regarding financial transactions, IranConMin has still managed to continue to grow and develop over the past ten years. IranConMin has evolved into one of the most important negotiation platforms, particularly for international companies and for trade-fair visitors from the entire region.”
The fair’s portfolio is oriented to high demand for equipment in the mining and construction industry in Iran. Over the years, it has constantly been adapted and expanded. For example, incorporating IranStoneMac into the fair made it possible to combine the sectors for mining, construction and natural stone with one another. A total of 232 exhibitors from 15 countries occupied 15,000 m2 of exhibition space at the 2010 fair, which was attended by 29,500 trade visitors. IranConMin enjoys the support of the Iranian Ministry of Industry and Mines, the Iran Mine House and the Association of Construction Equipment and Building Material Machinery in the VDMA (German Engineering Association). For the first time ever, the International Mining Congress, which is great demand in Iran and neighboring countries, is being held in conjunction with this year’s fair.
The large number of infrastructure projects in Iran makes it one of the largest and most interesting markets in the Middle East. Together with neighboring regions, Iran comprises a total of 300 million consumers. Projects worth more than USD 51 billion are currently either under construction or in the planning phase. In the years to come, Iran is planning to expand its railway network from 9,000 km to some 25,000 km. New subway lines that account for investment volume of some USD 50 million will help to improve the infrastructure in Iran’s major cities. Right now, Iran’s construction industry is characterized by strong demand for residential construction. Some 750,000 new residential units are needed for the country’s predominantly young population each year.
Mining and the processing of mineral resources also continue to play an important role. That includes a great deal of demand for new technologies for exploration and the mining and further processing of raw materials.
IranConMin gives exhibitors and visitors a first-rate B2B platform in one of the most interesting markets in the region.
