Key features include:

  • JCB EcoMax Stage IIIB/T4i engine, with no DPF

  • 5% fuel improvement

  • 7” full colour monitor

  • 29% shorter tailswing than conventional JS130/145

  • 19% increase in cooling pack capacity

  • Improved lift capacity

  • Improved slew performance

  • Optional Advanced Tool Select

Improved Performance

The redesigned JZ140 is powered by an 83kW (111hp) version of JCB’s proven EcoMax diesel engine. Conforming to EU Stage IIIB/US Tier 4 Interim emissions standards, the engine requires no expensive Diesel Particulate Filter or time-consuming exhaust after-treatment, reducing cost and complexity for the customer. The engine drives the latest generation KPM hydraulic pumps, delivering improved performance with 3% better efficiency. In combination with a new variable speed cooling fan, this contributes to a 5% fuel saving over previous models.

The reduced tailswing is 29% shorter than a conventional machine of a similar weight, with the counterweight of the machine overhanging 700mm wide track pads by just 140mm. This makes the JZ140 an ideal machine for constricted urban sites and single carriageway operation.  A heavier counterweight and revised engine positioning have created a machine with excellent stability, thanks to a lowered centre of gravity. This delivers improved lifting capacity, digging power and working range.

Service access has been improved, with a repositioned main valve block and remote fuel and engine oil filters to the side of the machine. The cooling pack is 19% larger than the previous model and is no longer angled, so the full width of the cooling cores can be accessed for cleaning and maintenance. Access to the engine platform has also been enhanced, with a step behind the cab making it easy and safe to service the engine. JCB’s SMART monitoring system provides the operator with automatic engine oil and coolant information, allowing daily checks to be carried out from within the cab.

Operator Comfort

The JZ140 uses the latest JCB engine and hydraulic control system and the full sized cab is equipped with a standard 7” full colour monitor. This easy to use screen can be configured by the operator, to provide desired information and to control machine functions. This includes simplified working mode inputs, with colour coding on the monitor to illustrate the selected mode. The machine also has revised power bands, including an H+ setting for heavy digging and lifting work.

The in-cab screen offers a monitor for the excavator’s standard rear view camera, while side view cameras can also be specified. JCB’s Basic Tool Select is standard, allowing the operator to set the single direction auxiliary hammer circuit to match attachment flow requirements. Advanced Tool Select is available as an option on the  JZ140, providing the operator with the ability to pre-set hydraulic flows and pressures for up to 10 attachments, cutting changeover time and boosting productivity.

Operators benefit from more comfortable KAB suspension seating, with increased adjustment and support. Heated air suspension seating is available as an option. Both internal and external noise levels have been considerably reduced, with the engine’s silencer tuned to deliver a higher quality sound. The cab has TOPS protection as standard, with additional ROPS and FOPS protection available as an option.

JCB’s 2Go hydraulic actuation safety system is standard and customers will also welcome the availability of optional factory-supplied safety rails for the machine’s upperstructure, complete with kickboards. Auxiliary pipework, hose burst valves and a hydraulic quick hitch are all standard equipment on the JZ140, with low flow return pipework available as an option.

Control of high and low-flow auxiliary circuits is now achieved through electro-proportional hand controllers. The ergonomically designed control levers allow the operator to work more efficiently with a range of powered attachments. The JZ140 is available with a choice of monoboom or TAB boom and with or without a dozer blade, to suit a range of customer requirements.

With the electronically-controlled Ecomax engine, JCB’s LiveLink telematic system delivers enhanced information for fleet managers. This includes full fuel consumption data, even in different operating modes, assisting fleets with improving consumption and reducing operating cost. Real-time geo fencing delivers an additional benefit to customers and can be enhanced through ECU matching technology, where the LiveLink ECU and the machine’s own ECU can be paired to prevent unauthorised use of the excavator.
