The machines have all been working in a variety of water-based applications, including flood prevention schemes on Somerset Levels on behalf of the Environment Agency.

The JS145 Long Reach models have been purpose built, with the base machine of a conventional 14.5-tonne JCB excavator fitted with a long reach boom. This combination of low operating weight and superior reach is ideal for dredging applications.

Land & Water Director, Richard Maclean said: “We chose JCB for a number of factors. We are proud to support British manufacturer and the technical expertise from the JCB factory is superb. We always receive great support from our dealer Greenshields JCB and they were able to offer a machine with the exact specifications we were looking for.

“The geometry of the arm is first class – providing good reach, excellent load over height and low transport position. We also like the fact that there is no diesel particulate filter, meaning the engines can be de-rated for export when the time comes to replace them. Operators like the cab environment which is light, spacious and very comfortable. We also particularly like the double safety isolating device.”

“The machines are performing well and have been positively received in the field. Our customers also find them to be very frugal when it comes to fuel consumption.”

“The JCB LiveLink telematics system is also a great feature which we use almost everyday. With our machines continually moving up and down watercourses, we need to know exactly where they are if we need to attend site. We also use it to monitor out of hours usage and for service management and diagnostics.”

Land & Water specialises in marine-based civil engineering, dredging and remediation projects. The company works in both in fresh and salt water environments thought the UK and Europe, with both commercial clients and those in the public sector.

These new machines join six existing JCB excavators in the Land & Water fleet which is largest fleet of specialist long reach excavators, dredging equipment and floating plant in the UK. Machines range from 3 to 115 tonnes – enabling Land & Water to address any specialist long reach requirement, from quarrying to waterway dredging and maintenance to basement, deep excavation and railway construction.
