JCB launches new 13 tonne excavator for rental customers

JCB today launches the brand new JS131 crawler excavator for rental customers – offering fantastic cost of ownership benefits. The 13 tonne machine – which loses none of the flexibility and performance of the proven JS130 -  is equipped with a fuel efficient JCB Ecomax engine that meets Tier 4 Final emission standards without the need for a complex and costly diesel particulate filter (DPF), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) or any form of exhaust treatment fluid.

Key features include:

  • JCB EcoMax engine with 55kW (74hp)

  • 10% fuel improvement over competitive machines

  • Reduced 99dB external noise level

  • 10% reduction in operating costs with no AdBlue

  • Ideal machine for rental operations

Optimised productivity

The JS131 builds on the success of JCB’s popular JS130, but  is powered by a rental-specific 55kW (74hp) version of JCB’s proven Ecomax diesel engine. This fuel-efficient power unit meets Tier 4 Final emissions standards without a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or any requirement for Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and a diesel exhaust fluid.

Performance from the engine and hydraulic system has been optimised for the perfect balance of power, productivity and fuel economy, with the Ecomax engine returning up to 10% better fuel consumption figures than all competitive 13 tonne machines. The machine uses the same high quality hydraulic pumps and valves as the JS130, tuned to perform with the 55kW engine’s output.

The Ecomax engine runs at just 1,800rpm, rather than the higher 2,050rpm of the more powerful 81kW engine in the JS130. This results in incredibly low noise levels of just 99dB, a full 2dB less than the 101dB of the higher performance model. This makes the JS131 particularly suitable for inner city construction projects, where site noise can be a major concern for the contractor.

With no requirement for exhaust after-treatment or complex emissions systems, the JS131 uses regular engine oils, further reducing operating costs. The machine can also be operated in non-Tier 4 territories without any requirement for changes to after-treatment systems, boosting residual values and further lowering total cost of ownership for the customer.

Tim Burnhope, Chief Innovation and Growth Officer: “JCB has listened to the voice of the customer and developed a specific machine for the hire industry, which is very important to JCB. By offering the JS131 with our proven 55kW JCB Ecomax engine, we can provide a lower total cost of ownership proposition for our customers, with no compromise on machine digging performance.”
