JCB site safety crusade - second Hi Viz dumper launched

JCB is adding to its successful flagship site dumper range with the launch of a second Hi Viz model as the company continues to take the lead with on-site safety.

JCB last year unveiled a completely new range of site dumpers, designed and built in-house, with capacities from one to nine tonnes. Leading an industry-wide focus on forward tipping dumpers, JCB’s new line-up took site dumper safety to a previously unachievable level, meeting the needs of contractors, civil engineers, ground workers, highways and housebuilders.

Now the brand new 6T Hi Viz is being launched, offering the same exceptional levels of visibility, stability and operator safety as the 7T Hi Viz that was introduced last year.

Key features include:

  • Hi-Viz design addressing all key industry safety concerns

  • Compliance with the latest safety legislation, including ISO 5006:2017

  • Manufacturer-backed two-year warranty and all-steel construction

  • JCB SiTESAFE cab with reinforced frame and impact protection

  • UK designed and built at JCB’s World Headquarters

Following the launch in 2018 of a comprehensive range of British-built site dumpers, JCB is responding to growing customer demand for safe operation on site, with a second Hi Viz model. The 6T Hi Viz retains a 6-tonne carrying capacity and the same 2.3m skip width as a conventional machine. However, by mounting the skip in a low-slung chassis, JCB’s engineers have provided a 77% improvement in all-round visibility.

The operator can see a 1.4m high object at a distance of 1.0m from the machine when fully laden, and a 0.8m high object at 1.0m when unladen, far exceeding legislative requirements. This is possible without the need for expensive cameras, sensors and additional mirrors, greatly improving site safety for the operator and for other workers on site.

With the skip mounted lower in the chassis, the machine’s centre of gravity has been reduced by 16%, improving stability on rough ground. Yet the 6T Hi Viz remains highly manoeuvrable, with excellent ground clearance and the same 35° steering angle as the 7T Hi Viz. This delivers a similar turning circle to a conventional 6-tonne dumper. JCB has equipped the machine with a new steering orbitrol and pump, while increasing the specification of the steering oil. This has resulted in 27% greater oil flow, reducing steering effort for the operator. The updated steering system will also be fitted to the larger 7T Hi Viz.

The 6T Hi Viz benefits from the standard fitment of the JCB SiTESAFE cab. This ROPS/FOPS Level II cab features a reinforced frame and impact protective front screen, designed and tested to withstand a front dump impact and side slewing impact from a 13-tonne excavator. The cab incorporates a new headlining material that reduces in-cab noise levels to just 84dB(A), negating the requirement for an operator to wear ear protection. The machine also features JCB's unique drive inhibit system which means the retractable hi-viz orange lap belt that must be buckled, with the operator in the seat, in order to engage drive.

All of the larger models in the JCB site dumper range are powered by proven Tier 4 Final JCB EcoMAX diesel engines, driving through JCB Powershuttle transmissions and JCB axles, delivering all of the performance and productivity benefits of a totally integrated design. Built at JCB’s World Headquarters in Staffordshire, the 6T Hi Viz is backed by a two-year manufacturer’s warranty.
