Jugend forscht: ThyssenKrupp supports young scientists

ThyssenKrupp will be sponsoring four regional heats of Jugend forscht in Dortmund, Duisburg, Saarland and Bremen. The sponsors are ThyssenKrupp AG for Dortmund, ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG for Duisburg and ThyssenKrupp System Engineering GmbH for the Saarland and Bremen heats. The young scientists’ competition Jugend forscht is being held for the 50th time this year.

The regional heats sponsored by ThyssenKrupp will take place in February and March. The winners of the regional heats will compete at state level, where the best will qualify for the national final in May. Cash and non-cash prizes worth a total of around a million euros will be awarded at the three levels.

Jugend forscht is aimed at youngsters up to the age of 21. Children aged 14 and under take part in the junior section “Schoolchildren experiment”. The contestants choose their own topic, which they then investigate using scientific, technical or mathematical methods. However the project must involve one of the seven specialist areas: working world, biology, chemistry, geography and regional sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics or technology.

ThyssenKrupp technology chief Dr. Reinhold Achatz: “The young inventors who take part in Jugend forscht have a passion for science and technology. They share this with the engineers at ThyssenKrupp. That’s why we are glad to support Jugend forscht.”

ThyssenKrupp apprentices also take part in the competition. Last year three apprentice teams from the Group came first in regional heats with projects in the categories technology and working world.
