Jungheinrich Presents New Auto Pallet Mover

The ERC 215a Auto Pallet Mover is an automated truck solution from Jungheinrich designed especially for in-house logistical operations.

Jungheinrich is introducing a new Auto Pallet Mover (APM) — the ERC 215a — in May 2013. This pedestrian truck comes with the latest generation of environmentally friendly three-phase A.C. technology, operates automatically in the warehouse and can handle payloads of up to 1,500 kilograms. “The ERC 215a represents an inexpensive alternative for standard transport operations,” says Dr. Martin Schwaiger, Head of APM at Jungheinrich. The new driverless transport system from Jungheinrich is designed primarily to carry out recurring transport assignments. In its standard version, the truck can handle lifting heights up to 4,000 millimetres, with higher heights available on special order.

Featuring a compact design and small turning radius, the ERC 215a can be integrated into existing warehouse management systems. “Integrating an APM in the respective infrastructure is fast, easy and safe,” says Schwaiger. The truck uses reflectors and laser navigation for precise warehouse orientation down to the millimetre. Schwaiger continues: “Our modular system design offers great flexibility, making it easy to add further trucks.”

Integrated Personnel Safety System

The ERC 215a comes standard-equipped with a personnel safety system consisting of a laser scanner mounted in the direction of drive (load direction optional), plus built-in sensors in the load direction. “These essentially surround the APM with a protective field,” explains Schwaiger. This field permanently checks the truck’s environment and stops the APM whenever an obstacle crops up, says Schwaiger, who adds: “Our driverless transport system is designed to cope perfectly with mixed operations.”

Both the vehicle control and route planning systems ensure excellent coordination of vehicles and an optimised flow of traffic. The APM can be operated either as a stand-alone solution or in the context of a warehouse management system and is available 24/7. It performs recurring transport tasks automatically. Thanks to its forklift sensors it can even detect a broken pallet, generate an error message and, if need be, cancel the job.

Reliable, tried-and-tested series-production trucks from Jungheinrich serve as the base vehicles for every Auto Pallet Mover. Apart from eliminating warehouse errors, a key advantage of this materials handling solution consists of the ease with which it can be customised or supplemented. And, as with Jungheinrich’s series produced trucks, APMs are part of the company’s quick-to-respond, world-wide service network.

Jungheinrich ranks among the world’s leading companies in the material handling equipment, warehousing and material flow engineering sectors. The company is an intralogistics service and solution provider with manufacturing operations, which offers its customers a comprehensive range of forklift trucks, shelving systems, services and advice. Jungheinrich shares are traded on all German stock exchanges.
