Kverneland perfects vegetable seeding

Kverneland VIcheck – continuous monitoring and simplified setting of the Miniair Nova seed drill thanks to advanced camera technology

On the Agritechnica 2013 in Hannover, Kverneland Group Soest GmbH will present a world first in vegetable seed drilling. VIcheck is the first system in the world that optically monitors the singling of vegetable seeds of a smaller grain diameter than rapeseed.

VIcheck continuously observes the seed disc with a special camera. The data are processed by a customized software program that checks how many seed grains per hole are present at the seed disc. The innovative feature of this system is that it not only detects missing seed grains but also double or triple allocations. If singling errors are detected, the driver is informed immediately and can then promptly optimize the settings at the seed drill. The system is fully ISOBUS capable and can therefore be used with all commercial ISOBUS terminals.

The primary benefit of this system is the simplified and faster setting of the seed drill’s sowing units. This not only avoids gaps but also saves extremely costly vegetable seed. In addition, a more uniform crop stand is achieved. With the optimized spacing, crops such as carrots will grow more uniformly which translates into higher yields and a simplified harvest.
