London, England has forecasted population growth at a rate of 20 percent over the course of the next fifteen years to 10 million residents by 2030. In order to meet high public transport demands created by such a fast growing metropolitan area, London’s Crossrail is being constructed as a high-frequency, high capacity railway running through London and out into nearby counties Surrey and Hertfordshire.
As part of the project, Costain Group of Maidenhead, England was contracted to complete much of the above ground construction of the London Crossrail.
“Costain Group has several NRC units on rent for several months including the Link-Belt TCC-750 and TCC-1100 where they complete mostly duty cycle work for concrete pier construction. With tight working conditions the cranes are a great fit for the jobsite,” said Dave Rees, Operations Manager for NRC Plant.
The 15 billion pound ($25 billion USD) railway project is set for a 2018 completion date. The millions of tons of soil being excavated in the below ground portion of the Crossrail project are transforming a levee-protected area on Wallasea Island into wetlands.
