Metso selected to ensure safe ESD at Orpic's Sohar refinery expansion project in Oman

Metso selected to ensure safe ESD at Orpic's Sohar refinery expansion project in Oman

Metso's intelligent solenoid valves have been chosen by Daelim, a South Korean EPC company, to ensure highly reliable emergency shutdown (ESD) valve operation for over 600 safety-critical valves being used in the expansion project at Orpic's Sohar refinery in Oman.

Daelim selected Neles ValvGuard intelligent solenoid valves to ensure that all safety actions can be implemented reliably on demand, if needed, for their extension project of the Sohar refinery, owned by Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic).

These valves were chosen because of their ability to perform partial valve stroke tests on a regular basis to verify performance for the plant's predictive maintenance purposes as well as to maintain the required safety integrity level (SIL) for the safety loops.

The high pneumatic capacity and integrated limit switches of Neles ValvGuard optimize installation costs for any plant. This means that refineries can take advantage of improved plant safety in a highly cost-efficient way.

Neles ValvGuards are fully compatible with Foundation Fieldbus communication protocol and they are ensuring safe and reliable operation on top of 3rd party and Metso valves. Foundation Fieldbus enables best possible life-cycle savings for the Sohar refinery due to some of the protocol's key benefits, including predictive maintenance capability and seamless data integration into operational displays of DCS system.
