MHPS Receives Order for Control Systems For Supercritical-pressure Thermal Power Plant in India Order from Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (RRVUNL) for New Chhabra Station Launching in 2016

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) has received an order from Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), India, for control systems for Units No.5 and No.6 of the supercritical-pressure (Note) coal-fired Chhabra Thermal Power Station currently under construction by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (RRVUNL), a government-operated power company in India's Rajasthan state. The order calls for two sets of core components for the turbine control and protection system (TCS/TPS), the boiler management and protection system (BMS/BPS plus flame detector), and the station distributed control system (station-DCS). Together the systems provide optimized control of high-efficiency supercritical-pressure power generation plants. Operation of the new Chhabra Thermal Power Station's Units No.5 and No.6 is scheduled to get under way in stages commencing in 2016.

The Chhabra Thermal Power Station of which each unit generates 660 megawatts (MW) of power, is presently under construction in Chhabra, approximately 300 kilometers south-southwest of Jaipur, Rajasthan's capital city. Earlier, in 2013 MHPS took an order for core component supply of two supercritical-pressure boilers and two steam turbines for the plant. That order was received through two joint-venture companies located in India: L&T-MHPS Boilers Private Limited and L&T-MHPS Turbine Generators Private Limited, which are the joint ventures between MHPS and Larson & Toubro Limited (L&T), India's largest manufacturer of construction equipment and heavy machinery.

The control systems newly ordered are the DIASYS (Digital Intelligent Automation SYStem), a series of distributed control systems (DCS) for maximizing the performance of power generation plants and achieving outstanding reliability and operating ratios. Production of the DIASYS Series began in the 1970s, and today's offerings represent the culmination of more than three decades of expertise and specialized technology in the control, monitoring, etc. of thermal power plants. DIASYS Series systems are highly acclaimed especially for their superlative reliability, their stable high operating ratio derived from online maintenance, and their stress free operability. In recognition of these achievements in reliability, stability, performance and operating ease, systems in the DIASYS Series have been delivered for use in more than 1,650 projects in 58 countries worldwide.

Besides the DIASYS Series, MHPS also offers the HIACS (Hitachi Integrated Autonomous Control Systems) Series for monitoring and control of power plants. Systems in the HIACS Series realize outstanding reliability, performance, compact size and flexibility of design, and they have been evolving ever since the first system, the HIACS-100, launched in 1975. To date HIACS Series systems have been delivered to over 640 projects in nations and regions across the globe.

The latest order from RRVUNL was received in reflection of the Indian power provider's high evaluation of the superior features of MHPS's control systems and the company's ability to meet all needs with products of its own manufacture.

RRVUNL is one of a number of power generation companies operated by the Government of Rajasthan state. The company was launched in July 2000 when the Rajasthan State Electricity Board unbundled what had been one massive enterprise, and today RRVUNL plays a major role in meeting Rajasthan's rapidly expanding demand for electric power against the backdrop of India's economic development.

Going forward MHPS will continue proactive marketing activities for its high-efficiency coal-fired power generation equipment and its control systems enabling maximum performance of this equipment. Through these operations the company aims to make important contributions to the achievement of stable power supplies in countries and regions around the world and to easing environmental burdens by curbing emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), etc.
