The engine, transmission and chassis design are three important components if a harvester is to quickly and easily cover ground even in demanding terrain. In Komatsu Forest's harvesters, the Komatsu 901, the Komatsu 911, the Komatsu 931 and the Komatsu 951, these components interact in a unique manner to ensure optimal manoeuvrability.
The good manoeuvrability offered by Komatsu harvesters is down to how the environmentally friendly Stage 4/TIER 4 Final engine interacts with the new transmission system, which automatically adapts to changes in engine load due to terrain, obstacles and inclines. And to make even more effective use of the diesel engine's performance and improve the machine's handling in steep and difficult terrain, the system automatically increases torque, and thereby traction, just before the machine reaches maximum capacity. As a result, the harvesters can clear obstacles with considerably greater ease than machines with traditional hydrostatic transmission systems while fuel consumption is reduced.
All Komatsu harvesters also feature Komatsu Comfort Bogie with concealed portals that are integrated with the rims, which helps provide very good ground clearance. The bogie even has a balance function that improves manoeuvrability when harvesting in very steep terrain.
What's more, Komatsu's chassis design enables you to balance up the harvester's rear Wheels. The result is that the operator can control the ground pressure of the single axle using the head and thereby minimise rut formation.
