Production Slated to Begin for KOHLER® Diesel Engine - Recently enhanced KD440 diesel designed to provide best-in-class performance in tough conditions

KOHLER, Wis. – October 23, 2013 – Kohler Engines is slated to begin production of its KD440 diesel engine in the fourth quarter of 2013. This air-cooled, single-cylinder diesel engine – initially introduced earlier this year – is designed to provide reliable performance in tough conditions, while also delivering reduced maintenance costs and increased ease-of-use for operators.

“The KD440 is small in size, but big on toughness,” said Jeff Wilke, marketing manager for Kohler Engines. “This ruggedly built engine will be utilized primarily in the plate compactor market – where it will stand up to extreme dust and vibration. But, it’s also ideal for many other applications where durability is needed, including portable generators, pressure washers, tillers, and more.”

Several features integrated into the KD440, which were specially designed to enhance performance in tough conditions, include: a new air filter with integrated cyclonic separator to remove contaminants and extend service life; an enhanced fuel filter to reduce the entry of impurities; a redesigned drain tap for quick cleaning and simple replacement; more durable fuel tank mounts; and a heavy-duty injector pump. A sound dampener has also been engineered into the recoil pulley to help reduce noise levels.

“We’re updating our complete range of air-cooled, single-cylinder diesel engines to meet the evolving needs of today’s end users,” Wilke said. “Moving forward, all of these enhanced engines will feature our unique bronze-and-black color scheme for quick and easy identification. Initial response to the KD440 has been positive, so we’re eager to roll out additional models in the near future.”
