Range-topping self-erecting crane on display at Las Vegas show

The largest self-erecting crane in the Potain range, the Igo T 130, will be shown to guests at next year’s CONEXPO 2014, taking place in Las Vegas, Nev., U.S. Its impressive 50 m (164 ft) folding jib gives huge coverage across even relatively large job sites, while the crane’s ability to telescope its mast allows users to pick the working height that best suits the job.

Mike Heacock, Manitowoc’s vice president of sales for tower cranes in North America, said the range-topping Igo T 130 continues Potain’s strong history of developing industry-leading, self-erecting cranes at the higher end of the capacity scale.

“Our North American customers have a long love affair with high-reach, high-capacity self-erecting cranes,” he said. “Many are still running older HDT 80 units and continue to use them productively. The Igo T 130 offers even better capabilities than the HDT 80 and with its improved operating system, plus its range of working heights, it should draw considerable attention at CONEXPO.”

Manitowoc first presented the Igo T 130 to customers at the end of 2012 in a special event at the company’s facility in Shady Grove, Pa. Several cranes have since been delivered to companies in both the United States and Canada.

The ability to vary the working height of the Igo T 130 is a feature that users prefer, allowing them to select the best height configuration to suit the project. Minimum height for the crane is 18.2 m (60 ft) and maximum available height is 61 m (200 ft), working with an inclined jib. The crane offers variable height both through adding lattice sections to its mast and by luffing its jib from the horizontal to an angle of 30 degrees. The Igo T 130’s jib is also equally versatile. While its 5o m maximum suits larger job sites, on more compact sites the jib can be folded back to 34 m (111 ft 6 in), allowing it to work within tighter site constraints.

In its transport configuration, it travels as a single trailer with an overall length of 17.15 m (56 ft). This convoy has a ground clearance of 32 cm (1 ft) for better access to working job sites.

The Igo T 130 can save time before arriving at the job site because the end jib section can be added or removed before traveling, even when the crane is in the folded position.

Even when working with the final folding section attached, the Igo T 130 can still be retracted in one simple operation. And in operation it’s efficient too, using only 25 percent of the power required by previous models for rigging ¬— a real advantage on job sites where power supply is an issue.

A series of sensors, along with Potain’s SmartCom, make the crane easier to deploy to its working position. Once working, the integrated remote control and adjustable controls make lifting as simple as possible, improving productivity.

Frequency controlled mechanisms ensure smooth movements, including hoisting where Potain’s 33 LVF 20 Optima winch provides lift speeds of up to 65 m/min (213 ft/min) for fast working or 1.6 m/min (5.2 ft/min) for close control when positioning loads.

The crane has a huge 8 t (8.8 USt) maximum lift capacity and can include the Ultra View operator’s cab which offers an unparalleled 9 m2 (30 ft2) of glass.
