SAME extends its Virtus range to offer even better productivity

The SAME brand's range topping Virtus family for open field applications has gained three new models: the 120, 130 and 140, delivering even more power and performance than ever and bristling with advanced technology, such as the state of the art FARMotion engine with SCR, a powerplant developed specifically for agricultural use, with impressive performance combined with superlative fuel economy, and which already complies with Stage IV emission regulations. Boasting a highly efficient hydraulic system, unrivalled in-cab comfort, an extensive choice of transmission configurations and a huge choice of accessories and optional features (which, among others, also includes the Agrosky automatic satellite guidance system), Virtus tractors are extraordinarily versatile and cater for the needs of any application.

The new SAME Virtus range is powered by the four cylinder FARMotion engine, a completely electronically controlled unit with 2000 bar common rail injection, with a turbocharger, wastegate and intercooler. This impressive package ensures outstanding responsiveness even at lower engine speeds, power and torque delivery optimised for both open field and transport tasks, and extraordinary fuel economy in all conditions. A major new feature introduced with the new Virtus family is the HEB (Hydraulic Engine Brake). This function, selected from a specific, ergonomically situated control on the platform, activates the main hydraulic circuit of the tractor and the electronically controlled viscostatic radiator fan to maximise the engine braking effect and slow the vehicle effectively without overloading the brakes for even greater safety on the road.

The tried and tested transmission equipping Virtus tractors consists of a 5 speed gearbox with two ranges working in conjunction with a hydraulic reverse shuttle and a 3 range Powershift unit, the latter with proportional solenoid valves to ensure smooth, progressive range shifting, an adjustable sensitivity to suit different load conditions. Additionally, the APS (Automatic Powershift) and SpeedMatching functions automatically select the most appropriate Powershift ratio for the ground speed.

In keeping with consolidated SAME tradition, the hydraulic reverse shuttle comes complete with the practical Stop&Go and the ComfortClutch button, which let the driver work without having to use the clutch pedal.

Virtus tractors already offer an impressive 30 speeds in both drive directions with the standard transmission configuration. This may be doubled with the addition of the optional supercreeper gear, which allows a minimum ground speed in both forward and reverse of just 134 metres per hour at maximum engine speed.

On top of this, further options include - ASM (which automatically engages and disengages the 100% lockable differentials and front wheel drive system) and the radar system (for continuous slippage monitoring and control) - significantly increasing productivity and performance.

The hydraulic system is just as powerful and versatile. Virtus tractors are equipped as standard with a 90 l/min pump feeding up to 8 rear couplers via mechanically controlled distributors. This is a modular system, however, and may also be upgraded with a 120 l/min load sensing pump delivering up to 8 couplers with mechanically controlled distributors or 10 couplers with electronically controlled distributors. The 5000 kg maximum load capacity of the rear lift may be increased to 7000 kg by adding optional supplementary lift cylinders (standard on Virtus 140). The rear lift comes as standard with electronic control and an anti-damping function. The optional 2880 Kg front lift maybe combined with a 1000 rpm PTO.

As proof of the extreme versatility of the Virtus range, the rear PTO is offered with all standard speed modes (540, 540ECO, 1000 and 1000ECO), and as a ground speed variant with independent output shaft. As standard, the PTO is equipped with a progressive electrohydraulic clutch and features an Auto mode, which automatically engages and disengages the PTO in relation to the position of the implement on the 3-point linkage. An, interchangeable output shaft is also available as an option.

For unparalleled safety, these tractors are equipped with an integral braking system, with multiple wet disc brakes on all four wheels. The HPB (Hydraulic Park Brake) holds the vehicle even more safely and effectively on any gradient. The HPB may also be used to stop the tractor progressively in an emergency. Powerbrake, also fitted as standard, minimises brake pedal effort while ensuring immediately responsive, powerful and controllable braking at all times. This system also permits up to 10 emergency brake applications even after the engine has been switched off. SAME Virtus tractors may also be equipped, on request, with a choice of different hydraulic and pneumatic dedicated trailer braking circuits to ensure complete compliance with the recent “Mother Regulation” EU directive. An electronically controlled front axle suspension system is also available as an option.

Simple primary controls, almost total all-round vision and premium comfort are traditional traits in all SAME tractors, and have been taken to the next level in the Virtus family. Front screen is available as both fixed and opening versions, and the rear screen as a defrost version. Hydraulic controls in the cab are highly customisable, while the cab itself features the tried and tested and highly effective SAME colour-coded scheme, with the controls organised in a rational, ergonomic layout allowing the driver to identify them immediately and intuitively.

The superior comfort offered by Virtus tractors can be improved even further with optional mechanical or air sprung suspension for the cab and the SDD function, which doubles steering speed to easier facilitate low speed manoeuvres. Another optional feature offered is the 8" iMonitor control centre for displaying and controlling the functions of the machine and of the Agrosky precision guidance system.
