"Schrobenhausener Tage" symposium focused on building renovation projects, technical innovations and changing values

The "Schrobenhausener Tage" symposium was a complete success once again. Approximately 250 customers, partners and friends of the company accepted the invitation of BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH to attend the traditional "Schrobenhausener Tage" event in Schrobenhausen in mid-May. Dr. Tilo Klinner, director of foreign trade at Germany's Foreign Office, was among the guests. This year was the first time that attendees, who had traveled from all over Germany, were welcomed by Arnulf Christa, the new Managing Director of BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH. In keeping with a long-standing tradition, Walter Haus, member of the Management Board and head of the domestic business unit at Bauer Spezialtiefbau, hosted the event.

The conference kicked off with presentations on building renovation projects, which are also becoming increasingly important for specialist foundation engineering as a result of growing urbanization. The speakers presented projects from Berlin, Munich, Zurich and Frankfurt am Main, where hard-to-access locations or contaminated sites posed difficult challenges. The speakers stressed that excellent collaboration between building developers and contractors is an essential prerequisite for successful projects.

The next section of talks highlighted the company's technical innovations. Talks on research and development or the use of building information modeling (BIM) on Bauer's construction sites, presented by Management Board member Florian Bauer, were followed by a section of presentations on ground improvement. According to Walter Haus, ground improvement is yet another topic that is becoming increasingly important as demographic structures change. Very often, he said, land that is not considered suitable for development must be remediated for later use.

International projects were of course also presented, highlighting the slogan of "The world is our market." Michael Jones and Harald Heinzelmann, both members of the Bauer Spezialtiefbau Management Board, as well as Paul Scheller, Managing Director of Bauer Renewables, reported on a range of challenges in addition to the actual construction task: The local climate (extreme heat, extreme cold) and the need to battle storms played a role during building projects in Sydney, the Northwest Territories of Canada and off the coast of Scotland.

Guest speaker Dieter Stetter, Managing Director of BAUER Maschinen GmbH, presented the latest product developments in the Equipment segment. Next, during a tour of the in-house exhibition area, attendees had the opportunity to see innovations first hand and get an up-close look at the machines.

The event closed with an evening talk by Prof. Thomas Bauer entitled "A shift in values is shaping companies and markets." Values are important, said the Chairman of the Management Board of BAUER AG, but they must also be managed well, especially in a company. According to him, an excess of regulations, which defines our understanding of values nowadays, only means that no one feels responsible anymore. "But everyone must assume responsibility for collaboration to be successful," Thomas Bauer said.

The day ended in a convivial setting with good conversation and asparagus from Schrobenhausen. The date has already been set for the next Schrobenhausener Tage in 2018.
