At just 2,500 square kilometers, Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries in the world. The capital of the same name is the administrative seat of the European Union. Downtown, along the Boulevard Royale, the construction company Entrapaulus made use of a SENNEBOGEN 40 t telescopic crane to lay the groundwork for the Royal20 construction project.
The characteristic plateau that defines the topography of the city of Luxembourg makes the building area downtown extremely small. Entrapaulus met this challenge by using a SENNEBOGEN telescopic crane to lift earth and building materials out of the excavation pit. The first task of the SENNEBOGEN 643 mobile crane delivered to Luxembourg by local sales and service partner HSB was in the narrow streets of the capital. An eight-story office building with over 4,500 square meters of usable space is being built on the legendary Boulevard Royale. The Royal20 building's diamond-like exterior is designed to impress and attract attention.
Pit logistics: earth and material loaded by crane
However, before the building can climb into the sky with its shimmering glass facade, Entrapaulus first had to finish excavating for the foundation and underground parking garage. Multiple excavators worked 15 m below the surface to remove soil. The excavated soil was then lifted to the surface and loaded onto trucks with a SENNEBOGEN 643 telescopic crane. The 40 t telescopic crane is equipped with a 30 m long telescopic boom that can be variably operated, even under load. A 128 kW diesel engine keeps the machine running smoothly. Due to the tight space in the middle of the city, its compact dimensions in particular were a crucial factor. With an undercarriage length of just 6.87 m and a transport width of less than 3.0 m, the crane not only could be easily taken to the job site on a flatbed truck, it could be positioned close to the pit without obstructing the sidewalk.
Another critical aspect in choosing the 643 M was the Maxcab comfort cab, which can be elevated up to 2.0 m to give the driver an ideal view of the pit and the loading area of the trucks. A camera system and lighting package contribute to an optimal overview and a high degree of work safety. Sales and service partner HSB is always ready to deliver spare parts quickly and provide skilled service.
