Motec has been a leader in the digitalization of smart camera and monitor systems for years. With the MCDE3000AI, the long-established company from Hadamar is now going one step further and integrating artificial intelligence directly into the camera. The newly developed smart camera can recognize people or objects without additional control units. Updates to the artificial intelligence allow for continuous improvements of the system performance. Join Motec for the world premiere of the MCDE3000AI at bauma in Munich from April 7 to 13.

The innovative MCDE3000AI is the evolution of the previous MCDE3000. The camera performance data remains unchanged. The digital camera provides a horizontal field of view of 115° and transmits video images in full HD resolution at 30 frames per second via the IEEE 802.3 (LAN) interface. The MCDE3000AI is suitable for an operating temperature range of -40...+85°C and is designed for the most demanding applications with a protection rating of up to IP69K.

New features include the integrated high-performance processor and the Single Pair Ethernet (BroadR-Reach) interface. The main processor is powerful enough to process the complex machine learning algorithms developed by Motec for people and object detection, thus eliminating the need for additional video control units or smart displays.

Being able to update the fully digital MCDE3000AI provides significant benefits for machine manufacturers and operators as Dr. Stefan Wirtz, Director R&D at Motec, explains: “As with all digital components, the software on our new smart cameras can also be updated. When it comes to AI functionalities based on trained neural networks, as in the case of the MCDE3000AI, this fact is even more important. Because the system never stops learning. We intend to train and offer various optimized neural networks for the most common applications. During operation, we continue to collect application data in cooperation with our customers and use this to further optimize the AI over time. And as we feed this optimized data back to the camera people can be recognized with increasing detail and precision.”

Motec has been working for more than a decade on the implementation of AI algorithms on the camera, control and display units developed and produced in-house. Motec is using a blend of real photos and abstract photorealistic computer-generated image content to achieve a system that is equally flexible, consistent and robust in recognizing relevant image content.

The applications range from single camera systems for compact machines such as forklift trucks to 360-degree all-round monitoring of large machines such as crawler cranes with multiple smart cameras. The MCDE3000AI can of course also be combined with other Motec components with integrated AI support, such as the newly developed MDDE3084 smart display or the MVCD2000 video control unit, to generate even more powerful operator assistance solutions.

Motec will be presenting the MCDE3000AI and other assistance systems at bauma 2025 in Munich. Interested parties can find the Motec innovations at the construction machinery trade fair from April 7 to 13 in hall A2 at stand 439.
