SMS Agro Expands Its Range of Pneumatic Seed Drills with the New Hydraulic Folding SMART 400 Model and Invites You to Agritechnica

Czech agricultural machinery manufacturer SMS Agro, based in Rokycany, is expanding its SMART line of pneumatic seed drills with a new trailed model featuring a 4 m working width. The new model, called SMART 400, will be unveiled to both professionals and the general public at the world trade fair Agritechnica in Hanover, Germany in November 2025. Its completely new design and rich equipment bring higher performance, reliability, and operator comfort.

The SMART 400 responds to growing demand for high-performance yet compact seed drills capable of both establishing and overseeding grassland, as well as standard field crop sowing. The new model builds on the proven slit-seeding technology, which enables secure seed placement in narrow slots without disturbing the soil structure or bringing stones to the surface.

The machine features a robust, hydraulically folding frame, which despite the 4-metre working width allows easy transport – the working wings fold hydraulically perpendicular to the main frame. Thanks to the free-hanging design of the wings, the SMART 400 adapts excellently to terrain contours and uneven surfaces.

At the front of the machine is the seeding unit, which customers can configure according to their preferences – with either an electric or hydraulic fan, various control modules, and hoppers ranging from 300 to 800 litres. The central section consists of two freely suspended working wings equipped with two rows of cutting discs (Ø 410 mm). Attached to these discs are seeding coulters with wear-resistant tips, which also serve as disc scrapers. Each disc is mounted on durable tines attached to the wing frame using rubber dampers, providing the required stiffness and resistance. A total of 32 seeding units with 12.5 cm row spacing ensure precise and consistent seed placement.

Behind the disc section is a support roller that consolidates the soil, promoting even crop emergence. Two types of rollers are available: prism rollers, ideal for use on permanent grassland, and Cambridge rollers, intended for field use. The machine is also fitted with a hydraulically operated undercarriage – in working mode, the wheels lift above the frame and effectively apply down pressure to the machine´s rear section.

As is customary with SMS Agro machines, the SMART 400 can be equipped with a wide range of accessories – from front tine harrows for moss and thatch removal to several roller types, various seeding setups, control elements, and sowing sensors.

The SMART 400 will be presented to the public during the Agritechnica trade fair in November in Hanover, Germany, where the Czech manufacturer will exhibit in Hall 11, Stand E54. Alongside the new seeder, visitors will also see the new generation of the FINISHER 400 combined cultivator with 4 m working width. Grassland and pasture maintenance machines like the GOLEM rollers – the largest grass rollers on the market with a 5.4 m working width and the option to fill with water up to 11 tons and the TALON GREEN meadow subsoiler, which works at depths up to 35 cm with four tines designed to aerate the soil and restore capillarity without mixing subsoil layers.
