Southern Cranes & Access takes delivery of one Demag® AC 160-5 and two Terex® AC 40/2L cranes

Horsham-based crane hire and contract lifting company, Southern Cranes & Access Limited, has invested in two new Terex AC 40/2L all terrain cranes and a new Demag AC 160-5. They join a fleet of 45 cranes currently operating from six depots across the south east of England.

In the 40-tonne capacity class, the best-selling 2-axle Terex AC 40/2L enjoys the benefit of a main boom of 37.4 metres and is one of the most compact and easy-to-operate cranes in its class.

Fitted with the new Terex® family cabin, the versatile Terex AC 40/2L is powered by a Tier 4f engine.

Company director, Kelvin Prince comments: “This model has the longest boom length of any 2-axle crane in this sector of the market. It’s also a proven machine which is popular with hirers across the territory in which we operate. Safety and driver comfort were also major considerations when choosing this machine. We confidently expect they will be much in demand by our discerning customer base.”

The 5-axle Demag AC 160-5 has a 68-metre main boom, and a 21-metre double folding fly jib. Its 2.75-metre carrier width and five steering axles make the Demag AC 160-5 all-terrain crane ideal for city centre work. Complete with the IC-1 Plus control system which calculates lifting capacities for every position of the boom subject to the slewing angle of the superstructure, this enables customers to use the maximum lifting capacity especially when lifting over the outriggers.

Regional sales manager, Andrew Snow, is delighted that family run Southern Cranes & Access, with nearly 20 years of experience in the crane hire business, has purchased those units. “The customer’s motto is ‘putting everything within reach’ and these three latest machines will enable Southern Cranes & Access to do exactly that,” says Andrew.
