Staying on top of things: Terex® Explorer 5800 all terrain crane hoists roof sections for supermarket

Everything in Sight – this was the motto of Ingolstadt-based Autodienst Eineder GmbH as it hoisted multiple flat roof elements in Gaimersbach, Germany in August 2015 during new construction on a supermarket. That crane operator Christoph Funk always stayed on top of things during the procedure had a lot to do with his equipment: a Terex® Explorer 5800 all terrain crane with a load view camera.

The company had decided to use the Explorer 5800 crane for hoisting the roof elements for several reasons: “While not needing to lift the loads particularly high, we had to hoist them with a very wide radius. With a boom length of 70 meters, the Explorer 5800 was perfectly suited to this. And the load view camera made it possible for our crane operator to work safely and with a high degree of precision even from such a long distance away,” explains Managing Director Peter Eineder. The quick setup of the Explorer 5800 crane was another decisive factor for Eineder GmbH – not least of all for economic reasons. Two service technicians from the company needed just one hour to have the crane ready for lifting. This included equipping it with 51.6 tonnes of counterweight, which required only two trucks for hauling it to the construction site.

Perfect Tool for the Job

The sum total of the Explorer 5800 crane’s features provided ideal conditions for carrying out the project on schedule within the set time of three weeks. Involved were 25 planned lifts overall, with loads of 2.5 tonnes each that required a working radius of up to 58 meters. It was a challenge that both the crane as well as its operator mastered: “Such a long, drawn-out project with so many lifts not only puts demanding and constant strain on the equipment, but also on the people. Because of its spacious carrier and superstructure cabs the workplaces of the Explorer 5800 are very comfortable, enabling focused and reliable work even after hours of operation,” says crane operator Christoph Funk in praise of his equipment – one more reason why choosing it for this project proved to be right on the money.
